LNS: Is the Hornet’s Nest Gone?

Interesting….so asking questions is ripping the fan base? Ha. Perhaps you should give the constant negativity and criticism of an elite baseball program a rest! Maybe get out of the ATL and try going to a game for once, and then get back to me! It might clear your mind getting out of the smog and congestion in the ATL. Lol.
The majority of my posts in the baseball forum are not negative. While it is certainly true that I don't get to many games at LNS because I moved to Atl eight years ago (coupled with middle and high school aged children who have more extracurricular activities that I can count), I had been going religously to TN baseball (football and basketball) games for over four decades prior to moving to Atl.

I have personally watched the good, the bad and the ugly for all of those TN sports. I remain very thankful that my father has held season tickets for TN football, basketball and yes baseball, for longer than I have been on this earth. TN baseball is one of the top (if not the top) programs in the country but no program is all sunshine and roses.

You can take your sunshine pumping and fan-policing and pound sand - you should probably know something about the person you call-out before you try to fan-shame him.......

Ha. That’s funny. You honestly should follow your own advice. BTW, I post in good times and in bad. The NegaVols only seem to show up when times are tough to cast their vitriol and throw players under the bus. One thing is we do agree that the BaseVols are elite. GBO!

I couldn‘t care less how long anyone has been on this board, or who has season tickets or not. Totally irrelevant but you do shame players and the team and then get upset when you get called out on it. You then got your feelings hurt because I asked questions about the atmosphere of LNS? Interesting…..

Anyone hear the pregame today? I heard my friend say something like Tony hated the prices and maybe ripped them for it

I see, once again, we are saddled with a crummy start time for Friday's game. 5:30 pm on a work day. The crowd will be late arriving and not locked in. I guess SEC network dictated it but it stinks. Team is snakebit and nothing else is going right either!

University of Tennessee and SEC Fan Code of Conduct

In the spirit of sportsmanship, fans shall:

• Conduct themselves in a manner that represents UT, the Southeastern Conference and the
NCAA with honor, dignity and respect.

• Demonstrate qualities of civility and sportsmanship at all times.

• Not use vulgar, abusive, racist, sexist, demeaning, or intimidating language at any time.

• Support the players, coaches and officials in a positive manner.

• Treat the visiting team, coaches and fans with courtesy and respect at all times.

• Not engage in cheers that are vulgar, crass or demeaning.

• Refrain from throwing objects onto the playing surface for any reason.

• Not become inebriated or belligerent.

• Refrain from entering playing and team areas at any time, including the game.

• Be a positive role model for those around you by treating others with courtesy and
respect!
It’s interesting that our school, or any other school, fuels this behavior because they make a healthy profit on alcohol sales. If they really wanted to tone down vulgarity, demeaning comments, and poor behavior in general, they should implement policies and practices that deter individuals that are alcohol-fueled.

Money grab? Sorry to break this to you but the cost of college athletics has skyrocketed. Personally, I’m grateful we have a true sports professional, Randy Boyd, shepherding and providing insight to our Athletic Department.
Gosh Chuckie, get with the program. We have an endless stream of money flowing in and back out because everyone around our program and city is dumping cash daily into the university treasure chest. The adminstrators are pocketing 95% of the revenue.

Did you hear about our NIL deal for the baseball team bat/ball girls? Over 6 figure numbers, and the best performers even more.

Or perhaps those people could use some old-fashioned common sense, follow social etiquette, use some manners, and not act like absolute morons. No one is forcing them to buy $15 beers, and then act like Jack arses.

Spoiled for sure , Expectations unrealistic. The biggest problem I believe is the bandwagons don't actually know baseball. Coming off a National Championship will bring that to a team. Not many will look at how many position players and starting pitchers had to be replaced. And what's amazing to me , we have identical record as last year. We're young we'll be better by June.
Without high expectations, outstanding performances are seldom achieved.

I haven’t had the opportunity to attend any SEC series at home this year like I did last year, so I can’t assess whether or not the atmosphere is noticeably worse or not. It’s hard to tell on TV, because production can make it sound a lot different through speakers than it does in person when you are there. TBA is a prime example of it sounding dead on TV every single game, but then people in attendance saying how rowdy it can be.

I think this year has been kind of a weird year for the atmosphere. Our schedule has not helped at all, IMO. From everything I read, the Florida series to open the year when we were #1 in the country was insane for all 3 games.

We then went on the road for two weekends in a row until we came home and had a weather affected series against a struggling A&M team. It’s weird to think about but that one bad day of the doubleheader seemed to change the vibes at home this year. After that double header, it’s been bad. Kentucky was a weird series and then just when you think you have an opportunity against a ranked opponent at home to get right, the entire weekend is upended by a tropical storm that turned into a monsoon in East Tennessee and I can’t say I blame the fans for how the weekend turned out.

With the renovations, the weather, and the lack of big opponents at home after Florida, it’s just been a strange season. I think the energy will return in 2026, personally. But I do recognize that the rising cost of college sports is probably going to leave a permanent mark on the fan experience.

The point is that alcohol fuels many of the behaviors. For many, alcohol and common sense are not compatible.

This is a pretty good assessment.

Imagine if Arkansas had come here this year? I think as Mookie said the energy is influenced heavily by the opponent. I suspect we’ll see a pretty rowdy crowd for Vandy this weekend. Can’t wait!

We’ll be able to compare this week in Knoxville to next week in Fayetteville. With any luck, we can hold our own. Man, the season has gone fast!!!

Once alcohol was readily available in Neyland the amount of drunken, out of control fans dramatically increased. Doesn't matter where we sit, there's one or more nearby. Rather not drive 4 hours each way and watch it from home instead. Much cheese too.

I think there is a combination of situations for our lack of success in conference play at LNS.

1. our level of play has brought frustration to fans and players alike.
2. fast start brought unreasonable expectations for a young and inexperienced team
3. like it or not moving the students hurt LNS VIBES.
4. we became spoiled as a fan base in thinking we would win every series from prior years success.
5. Ticket pricing has locked out the so called middle class who were probably some of our most passionate fans. ( I can remember a time when UT BASEBALL was the one sport that was reasonably priced for families to enjoy). To show you how old I am, I think I paid $12 bucks to watch a game in the 1995 regional against Oklahoma State that sent us to CWS in many a blue moon. Todd Helton & RA Dickey memories!
6. the weather has hurt some.

Every successful programs goes through unexpected troubles, (whether we admit it or not nobody saw these struggles coming) here’s hoping to a big bounce-back series win this weekend against Vanderbilt. Go Vols!

We will know if the old LNS Hornet’s Nest is back after this weekend. With the great weather, students still on campus, and it being a series against Vandy, there’s no excuse for it not to be loud.
225$ face value for a single behind home plate, 145$ all the way down right field face value. And someone has entire rows of however many seats are in a row for sale, UT has to fix this. For 225$ I can spend 2 nights at the beach. Screenshot_20250508-205302.png
