So much of the departure of US manufacturing is not because of expensive labor but regulations that handcuff and leech US businesses. If you have a chemical plant you’re forced to decrease emissions each year spending millions not on increasing capacity or improving efficiency. Or manufacturers that suddenly have their by products deemed hazardous waste so they can no longer landfill it cheaply

Amazon was simply playing politics with it.

if we are to 'inform consumers' then consumers should be informed how all gov't taxes and regulations and inflation raise prices people pay.

should consumers know how much the left's environmental hoax has added to the price of things...how much more things cost because energy price increases?

All other things being equal, sure. Overpaying (and/or opting for an inferior product) is just foolish and irresponsible, but do what you like with your own money.

If US businesses can't stand on their own merit, that's on them. Relying on the government to intercede and artificially control the market sounds oddly like the opening movements toward a planned/command economy (i.e. not a good thing).

Often it's not that US business can't stand on their own merits, they're handcuffed by the US govt.

I don't mind that, though that is not the current issue.

And one cannot help but note the irony of your disdain for "playing politics" since that is EXACTLY what Trump did in cajoling Bezos into preventing it from happening. One wonders what threat Trump made to get Amazon to help Trump hide facts from the American consumer, facts that Trump doesn't want you to know.

Counterpoint: it's "patriotic" to resist terrible policies that do damage to one's country and its economy.

They laid off 10-15k employees in 2024, then towards the end of 2024 they announced that they were reducing their Amazon volume. I don't remember if they gave a number on how many people would be laid off because of that decision. The bigger point is UPS decided to "divorce" Amazon before Trump took office and the news media is lying by tying the reduction in Amazon business with UPS to the tariffs.

I just looked at google, and many articles including Yahoo and Reuters, say due to tariffs..surprisingly CNN has an article that states the truth, and even UPS has said it wasnt due to tariffs..

I always wondered how they got all those packages delivered for next to nothing..go try and send a personal package or business package and it is alot more..

talk about low margin high volume business

I wonder if the 20k includes the already stated number from 2024? Article says closing 200 sort centers and sounds like 73 other buildings. I knew about the Amazon volume. Interesting that 60% of their Amazon business was not profitable. Bezos must have worked a helluva deal.
