I understand this point of view. So we should retire our 1st team All Americans too? Dale Carter was All American as a junior and Senior. Was also 1st team All American as a kick returner averaging almost 30 yards per return (29.6 IIRC) for the season which lead the nation. Should Dales number be retired at UT? Carl Pickens was an AA receiver, and played corner too when we needed him due to injury. Should Pickens number be retired? There are lots of 1st team AAs that have come thru UT that played here all 4 years unlike Hunter who transferred to CO with Deion. There are also 2 way players from back in the leather helmet days who played offense and defense the entire season...who attended UT for all 4 years.
I agree with you that Hunter was the best football player in the country and should have had his number retired. He won the Biletnikoff award as best WR AND the Bednarik award as best defensive player in the same season which is insane. He did NOT win the Thorpe award (best DB). Which is funny because i think his future is at CB in the NFL who moonlights on offense a little. Hunter left CO as a junior btw...he still has 1 year of eligibility left. Hunter only played 2 seasons at CO...but I can still see retiring his number. To retire Sanders number is a joke though, and will be viewed that way IMO.
Hunter won a Heistmam. Enough to retire jersey at CO IMO..
