Official Gramps' Memorial Eternal OT Thread

I’m starting to get a bit nervous about The Hype’s recruiting. No matter how good you can coach it’s still 95% Jimmy’s and Joes
I just don’t even care.
We have a QB coming in for one season that I’d never heard of but could be surprisingly good (what I’m hearing from a friend that actually knows football. He’s an LSU grad so no reason to lie about it) so hypocriticaly we could be in a situation where we have a guy who has a great season and becomes a legend that nobody had ever heard of 6 months before the season.
We were a playoff team last year with a QB who…….let’s face it. He’s less tha average for the SEC and some others stepped up big on D.
At this point, with the portal being what it is, the days of building a program from freshman are over.
I’ll start looking at who the team is and learn names in August.
Same thing for our opponents. It won’t be the same guys from their last years team either.

Happy for Pearce and for UT, but hate that hes a falcon. They are the panthers most hated division rival...so we face them home and away every year. Yay...

The Browns traded back into late 3rd round and I figured they were gonna take Sanders. Nope! They take the Oregon QB lol! I’m guessing nearly all of the scouts saw something they didn’t like.

There were some crazy comments from the guys on NFL network this AM. One of the GMs had told them Sanders had THE worst pre draft interview he had ever seen. Others said Sanders talked down to them in interviews as if he was the person in charge. They mentioned that Sanders was advised to play in the Senior Bowl so scouts could see him perform among better players...but he instead played in the East/West Shrine bowl in Dallas but refused to attend the mandatory practices like the other players. They said 1 GM said they weren't even considering Sanders because Deion told the media months ago that if Shedeur OR Travis Hunter got drafted by any team they didnt want to play for that Deion would step in, have them holdout and demand a trade.

The Sanders family did EVERYTHING wrong it seems to put him in this position. Its 50/50 whether he even gets drafted at this point. They said the sentiment among owners was that between Shedeur and Deion, drafting him would bring drama into the locker room from day 1. Its crazy man. Honestly, Sanders is probably the 3rd best QB in this draft behind only Ward and Dart. The baggage that comes along with him (mostly due to Deion IMO) has cost him many millions of dollars. Deion is responsible for telling his son his whole life that he was elite...making him believe he was peerless. Deion is also responsible for basically starting a pissing contest with all the owners before the draft even started...saying they would holdout and demand a trade. Billionaire owners dont like players telling THEM how things are gonna be. These are people who never hear the word "no". Its a little different when you're 3 time NFL MVP Aaron Rogers...but Sanders has mid to late round talent and huge baggage. Who wants to willingly bring that into their locker room,? Maybe somebody like the Steelers who still dont have a QB will draft him late and see if he can make the team?

Carolina Panthers could have drafted Sampson in the 4th rd...instead took Etienne from UGA...Browns pick Sampson bout 10 picks later.

So dang stupid. Been a fan since the Panthers/Jags were added to the league to make 32 teams, but its getting really hard to pull for these morons

Colorado had retired like 5 numbers in their 100 years of football. Deion made sure they retired his son and Hunters numbers....neither of which even played for all 4 years at Colorado. What a joke...shame on the school for allowing him to do that.

Hunter absolutely earned it...

I understand this point of view. So we should retire our 1st team All Americans too? Dale Carter was All American as a junior and Senior. Was also 1st team All American as a kick returner averaging almost 30 yards per return (29.6 IIRC) for the season which lead the nation. Should Dales number be retired at UT? Carl Pickens was an AA receiver, and played corner too when we needed him due to injury. Should Pickens number be retired? There are lots of 1st team AAs that have come thru UT that played here all 4 years unlike Hunter who transferred to CO with Deion. There are also 2 way players from back in the leather helmet days who played offense and defense the entire season...who attended UT for all 4 years.

I agree with you that Hunter was the best football player in the country and should have had his number retired. He won the Biletnikoff award as best WR AND the Bednarik award as best defensive player in the same season which is insane. He did NOT win the Thorpe award (best DB). Which is funny because i think his future is at CB in the NFL who moonlights on offense a little. Hunter left CO as a junior btw...he still has 1 year of eligibility left. Hunter only played 2 seasons at CO...but I can still see retiring his number. To retire Sanders number is a joke though, and will be viewed that way IMO.
