2025 Transfer Portal Thread

Not it's not. There isn't some DA working out a deal with any lawyers in a back room in regards.
Gainey is just signaling he wants to play another year here if the unlikely was to happen.
The is no evidence that he or any other players have any insider information to what the judge in this case will be ruling.
If there is, maybe you could post it.
Incidentally, to my knowledge Gainey isn't suing in this case.
I'll turn the tables on you here, if we don't know anything, how can you say there isn't a DA working out a deal with the lawyers?

Well, for starters, my best evidence is there was no District Attorney involved in the JUCO case, and I haven't any reason to believe there would be one involved in this one, either.
So there's that.

I agree. I mean it's what I saw. I saw Perry get cooked quite a bit. When Kentucky did play decent D I noticed it was usually early and they couldn't sustain it. You guys really need to work on strength and conditioning in the off season.
That’s the funny thing, we played a deep rotation and so it’s not like guys were getting gassed. The most anyone played was about 25 MPG. Other than Butler, Oweh, and Williams, we just didn’t have very many athletic players that could stay in front of athletic teams. It’s why we could beat ultra skilled teams like Duke and Gonzaga but lose to the physical, athletic teams like Georgia.

We have much more athletic personnel this year via the portal, I’m hoping that naturally lends itself to better defense but would also like to see a concerted effort by the staff on putting together a cohesive defensive game plan.

You guys did well last year when you hit the 3 at a high clip. It's most definitely why you beat us in those 2 regular season games and then looked like a completely different team in the NCAAT when we played.
When you didn't shoot really well beyond the arc, you weren't nearly as good. From the looks of your recruiting this year it appears Pope is looking to be less relieant on the 3 ball. For sure would benefit you guys to bring in a proven strength and conditioning and defensive coach. You did well last year in your 2 point percentages, but you had a lot of trouble stopping teams from driving to the basket. I'd say Pope is looking to clean that up this year, and like I said, not "live and die from 3".

From the NCAA vs House settlement today. Once that is worked out, which now has 14 days to happen, the roster size goes up. (Wilken is the judge) The cuts referenced here are walk-ons and mostly football players. Roster limits in football will fall to 105, but scholarships will rise to 105 from 85. This is to limit who shares in the revenue for each team.

Wilken wants to see current athletes "grandfathered in" and allowed to remain on rosters until their eligibility expires. This would enable schools to temporarily exceed new roster limits, which include unlimited scholarships. Hard cuts would likely leave nearly 5,000 athletes without spots on rosters across the NCAA's 43 sponsored sports.

Unlimited scholarships for the next 4-5 years according to that?

I’m lost as to why the courts are compelled to eliminate walk ons?

They’re not. The limit will be 105. If you want 105 scholarship players, a program may do that. If you want 100 scholarship players and 5 walk ons, a program can do that. If you want 55 scholarship players and 50 walk ons…you get the idea. Bottom line, you can have 105 on the roster and any number of those can have scholarships.

At least that’s my understanding.

Today is a little boring. No current validity to any CBM talk. Obviously the stress is around missing McNeely, Rice and Miles, and still don’t have a gun at the two. We spent too much time on Rice and got swiped at the last minute. Cade Tyson isn’t out of early evaluation. I think there are both hurt feelings and questions about his durability. We aren’t chasing him with urgency currently. Chaikin is talking, but not down the road enough to predict anything. Seems like UVA is current competition. Adams is a big focus. We are chasing putting the same level of focus/momey/attention on Adams as we did Ament. Barnes has full support to pursue this with the big boys. We did a zoom with his agents. Will do another with him and family. Hopefully visit to follow. Sorry I don’t have bigger/better news. Staff believes in our young guys more than we do. No read on fifth year, but Gainey and ZZ still holding as a possibility. Gainey remains the most likely fit obviously, but I’d be less surprised than most if ZZ returns. It’d be a bit of a stretch/odd fit with JG, but not impossible.

I’m glad the staff has confidence in the young guys. I’m not trying to discount them, but I still don’t think you can rely on Boswell, Evans, or Henderson to be a primary scoring option and be a true threat to contend in the SEC. Hope I’m proven wrong.

I thought it was that every player had to be on scholarship, because every player will be entitled to the revenue sharing and walk on’s won’t be, thus you can’t have walk on’s

This shouldn’t be an issue, he’s cheaper than I expected and about 1/3 of our remaining budget, money shouldn’t be why we miss here unless it just turns into an all out bidding war, but I’m not sure I see that coming.
