The Atlanta Braves

Flipping your bat and running the bases are fundamentally different actions.

Ronald didn’t sign a team friendly contract to help the team. It’s not a feather in his cap. He’s also been paid a lot of money to not pay in case you were wondering.

Bobby cox wasn’t able to connect anything. He had issues with Andruw Jones every 7 seconds.

If you recall, Ronnie and Ozzie signed their contracts at roughly the same time. And a large part of that was so they could play together. Sure, it gave them some guarantees, but both players knew they were leaving a ton of money on the table that would benefit the team.

And Andruw Jones and Bobby Cox had a great relationship actually. And still do according to Druw.

I know a guy who knows his stuff that absolutely hates the Joey thing. TIFWIW
I watched a YT video last night of every throw he made during the Clemson game last season. There were quite a few bad throws and bad decisions. There were also some throws where his WRs didn't help him out, and a handful where he did have pretty good timing with the WR.

It's just one game, and it was against by far the best defense he played last year, but he's going to face a bunch of Clemson-type defenses in 2025. Dude had 5 games with multiple INTs last year; none of them were against Clemson (he actually didn't throw a pick in that game). It was just one game, and it wasn't some unmitigated disaster, but I can't say I was impressed.

Could you imagine foam swords in a Bobby cox dugout? Get out man.
Bobby Cox would get fired so fast in this era of baseball. As would pretty much any coach from that generation. I recall Tony LaRussa throwing his own player under the bus a couple years ago for "breaking an unwritten rule." That was not very popular in the clubhouse.

Clemson also knew App State had to throw basically the entire game because App State couldn't stop their offense. When you are forced to be that one dimensional against an opponent that is way better than you, it is not gonna be pretty.

No one is wrong and no one is truly right when it comes to Acuna. He usually plays his ass off; he gets along with most of the dudes in there and he's a superstar talent. I don't think he is a bad teammate.

He's also immature, he pouts when things don't go his way (remember he didn't go after a ball during a freaking playoff game) and it's not a great indication of his maturity he's had issues with Snit and Freeman. He also should not be tweeting about team matters when you haven't played 1 inning this year. Just not a good look.

But again, if the manager wasn't an idiot, this wouldn't be a problem, and nobody would be talking about this.

Also, Jeff is a team employee essentially. Someone either asked him or gave him the green light to go on and torch Acuna Tuesday after this story. Why would you do that after another win and the story was basically going to be forgotten by Wednesday? That is my bigger concern right now.

That's a fair assessment. I would also say that the Braves failed to build a good relationship with Ronnie. I mean from Ronnie's own words:

"When you come up as a rookie, there's always someone who [wants to tell you how to do things]," Acuna said. "You come up from the minor leagues with the big eye black, the sunglasses, the hat low, and a lot of people see that as wrong. And the other person doesn't see it as wrong because it's part of the game.

"A lot of veterans [picked on me] when I was a rookie, and they called me into the office themselves and told me: 'No, you can't use that.' And they took [the eye black] off me with a towel like that. And I said, 'OK, that's fine.'"

Ronnie doesn't play the "Braves way" and the good old boys club can't stand it.

You are thinking more about what Francoeur is doing than Francoeur is thinking about what Francoeur is doing man. No one told him to do that. He probably didn’t even know he was doing that until after the fact ha

the Braves did such a bad job of building a relationship with him that they gave him more money than the GDP of his entire home nation

And I am sure the Braves haven't benefitted at all from paying one of the best player's in the league a well below market salary for the last 6 years.

Dude. I don’t know if you noticed but he ain’t out there. His contract is treading towards pretty darn fair. He has played 150+ games twice in what will be 7 seasons. The other seasons he hasn’t even came close to playing a full season. Thats bad.

I would take more solace in that if he wasn't a turnover machine in a bunch of other games.

If anything, the guy might love baseball too much. I know it's his home, but he's nuts playing down in that Venezuelan league in the winter.

There are a lot of cultural differences at play here, as there are with a lot of Latin players. What Americans are more likely to view as hot dogging, being a drama queen, etc., Latin players see as showing passion for the game. I don't have a problem with the flash or theatrics; I have a problem with loafing (which he's done in spots) and immaturity/pouting. He pouted the entire 2022 season because he personally wasn't having the season he wanted even though he was on a 101-win team, and it got kind of annoying as a fan seeing that every night. His body language was bad all year; you could pick up on it as a fan watching all the games on TV. It was probably worse in the clubhouse.

It's the least surprising thing of all time that he and Snit aren't buddies and never have been; hell, it would be shocking if they were close.

He has posted a total of 21.8 WAR since the start of this contract. He's made 55.5 million over that time. That comes down to about 2.5 million per WAR. I'd say that is pretty friggin damn better than fair.

Best ability is availability. We won the WS without him ie he was replaceable.

He has had one out of body season sprinkled in with some very good to great play.

100 million is fair.

He literally carried us for the first 2 months of that season. We wouldn't have made the playoffs without Ronnie in 2021. Hell, we probably sell off Freddie and Charlie at the deadline and anyone else not contract at the end of the year.

Acuna has posted at least 3 WAR 3 different times since 2019, not counting the Covid season where he also played at an MVP level. For reference, that is 2 more 3 WAR seasons than Dansbae put up in his time in Atlanta and he received 7/177 from the Cubbies.

Eh, "sprinkled in" is a little unfair. He had an awesome rookie season and was consistently great in 2019. He was also great until he blew his knee out in 2021, and went out of body in 2023 as you mentioned.

The only consistent stretches of so-so play (by his standards) he's had were the 119 games in 2022 (after the ACL) and the 49 games he played last year before getting hurt.

He is a great player. He also has 2 seasons with 4.0 or more WAR. My whole point is 100 million is closer to fair that’s it is not.
