'25 QB transfer prospects (Joey Aguilar)

If we go 4-8 we can probably kiss Faizon bye, that would have us starting another rebuild
This is true. Plenty of programs are still trying to poach him. A losing season would hurt us in recruiting. Truth be told, this whole Nico saga could ultimately hurt us in recruiting. Coaches who sided with us publicly will still spin it negatively on the recruiting trail.

without a doubt.
Nico's ceiling is 10X Aquilar's.
Id say he's way more talented than any QB we've had in 15 years, but... potential gets coaches fired

Physically gifted YES, proven production with it, NO. The head part is a necessary requirement too. Could come around, but he has not met expectations for either year he was here.

He probably wins the job but Merk may kill it in fall camp. A spring game is utterly worthless to take anything from
Usually, it’s worthless because a player balls out. When they look absolutely terrible against a depleted defense that’s not a good sign.

Why would a bad year after getting punked by a greedy starting QB change a guys mind about the coach and the program potential post Nico?

Pay Joey the same he was gonna make at UCLA or a bit less and throw the rest of the Nico money at the BYU kid.
Save it all for Faizon Era.

2025 is a wash. Look at the 1) QB room 2) RB room 3) WR room 4) OL

This could easily be a lowgrade offense in SEC games. Heupel only has so much magic he can sprinkle.

I'm happy with ANY portal QB, including Aguilar. We must have at least 3 QBs on the roster when the portal closes.

My hope is that we aren't having to pay him significantly more than Merk and GMac and that we'll have an open competition for QB1 in the fall. Regardless of who wins the job, I'd like to see QB2 and QB3 get some quality reps early in the season. Worst case scenario is we go into 2026 without knowing what we have in Merk & GMac. Give them an opportunity to showcase how good or bad they are so we'll know what needs to be done in the December portal. Otherwise, Faizon is going to come in with a some unfairly high pressure and expectations.

Tbh…I’m not surprised we couldn’t coax another QB to quit on their team after Nico was shellacked for doing the exact same thing by the entire nation less than 2 weeks ago.
This is another thing people aren’t considering.

These kids have Twitter. They saw the (justified) reaction to what Nico did. They know that leaving their team high and dry could invite the same reaction. And why would they want to deal with that?

Yeah, yeah, “money!”, but young people care about their image a lot. Especially young athletes.

This is a ridiculous take. Did you forget that Hooker was nobody at Virginia tech? Did you forget that Nico had only 5 TDs in the SEC against teams not named Vanderbilt? Did you forget that we have like a 60% bluechip ratio across the board? We had a 46% in 2024. Y'all just love to be miserable.
Hooker had a 155 qbr and 5.2 ypc his last year at VT 😅🤣🤣

The year before he ran for less but had a 166 qbr haha.

STUD.

That said, he was generational. The greatest UT qb all-time and it isn't close.

Why wouldn't a bad year make a kid who can choose to go anywhere rethink his decision?

If they do in fact land the Appalachian State QB, I expect to see him get some weapons in the porthole. Else my $5 a month to Spyre...well, I dont even want to say what ill do.

We'll never truly know. However, if it's true about him skipping practices and not fulfilling his NIL obligations, due to Daddy's influence then he was at very least complicit. If true, he's part of the problem.
True, gotta grow up sometime and take responsibility for your own actions. Wish the kid the best!

Hooker, Dobbs, Bray, all just off the top of my head looked pretty garbage in spring games

Aguilar is a bridge QB and would be a solid addition for a one year deal. I think he'll still have to compete for his job anyway. Next year we'll have year 3 Merk, year 2 GMac, and Faizon. Just need to have a guy to guide us through this year and help mentor the current guys.

Tyler Bray was the original “im bout to sling this mf so far” he then handed the baton to JT Shrout, who passed it to milton, who passed it to Gas Pipe, who is now passing it to Aguilar
