'25 QB transfer prospects (Joey Aguilar)

This Aguilar dude can easily surpass Nico’s performance last season. The question is, can he surpass what Nico coykd have do e this year? We'll never know.
Correct, we expected a jump in production after another year in the system, some flaws in his game to be corrected.

Hard to say how committed he was to that end. I've wondered with him about his love of the game, the fire and passion for it.

We'll never know now.

Aguilar would at least match Nico's production from last season and possibly beat it...if he starts. I think this would be a move to bring in a capable experienced guy to compete for the job and solidify depth and not necessarily bringing in a guy with the full expectation that he's the starter. That being said, it would be the most talent he's ever had around him and he could prove to be a good QB when given that opportunity.
That and playing for a better coach who can work with QBs probably helps too. Not saying we're going back to the playoffs, because I don't think we were doing that even with Nico, but Aguilar gives you a chance to win 8 games, possibly 9 if it goes well.

Not only that, but this creates more competition in the QB room. Having 3 talented, motivated guys competing for the starting job is typically a good thing.

That's not the problem. By reading this thread, you would think Nico is Mahomes.
I don't think anybody is arguing that Nico is great. I do think it is valid to state that Nico was average last year at best. I have criticized him a lot for being nothing but a handoff machine.

However: he had familiarity in this offense, played in a tough league (against a weak schedule admittedly), and showed some sparks that helped us build excitement for next year.

Now we get UCLA's sloppy seconds from App State, after he had such a great 2024.

You think a guy who threw 14 interceptions last year would have gotten those 10+ touchdowns Nico missed?
You really can't just make this blanket statement. We have QB's who throw very few INT's because of scheme. I'm not going to break down the individual games, but Appalachian State gave up 29+ points 6 times last year, so they had to score points.

Every year that CJH has been our head coach, he constantly draws up plays that has a WR running open down field. BUT we’ve had only one QB who could constantly hit that open receiver and he came on campus without any fanfare.
All I want from whoever is our QB is hit the WIDE OPEN receiver, please!!

That isn't why we cut him loose. There was no stand about money. The stand was about quiting on your team, something they had threatened before.
Of course it was about money. I’m not saying that they made the wrong decision by not paying the kid 4 million but if you are going to go to the mat on the national media stage, and then take the kid that got kicked out for him on his next team, it’s a bad look.

0 people on this board would have traded Nico for Aguilar in December. Now we have to put the orange colored glasses on and act like everything is hunkydory.
Nobody would’ve thought Nico was going to put on an NFL style holdout two days before the Spring game and end of spring practice either but here we are.

It is what it is . That dickhead really screwed us over and now we have to move on. No one wouldve believed this 3 weeks ago. I completely expected Nico to make a huge jump this season, but now I think it’ll be interesting to see how we can tailor our offense around someone’s strengths. I feel like I’m one of the few on here who actually has confidence that Heupel can get the most out of this situation. I also think we’re better at wide receiver and o line this season. We need to add another Wideout and We need help at corner . I really want us to get back to the days where we had a ball hawking safety. I’d love to get the kid out of Houston. Much like last years mass exodus in the secondary l, we will have addition by subtraction in the WR room .
