2025 Transfer Portal Thread

Also...someone else I'd be curious if we've contacted.

BJ Freeman from Arizona State

6'6" and listed as a CG in the portal...84 games played in 3 years, 70 he started and has been playing 30+ a game. at Milwaukee for 2 years he was averaging 19.5 ppg, 5.8 rpg, 3.5 apg and shooting 41% FG and 34% 3PT. Last year at Arizona State he was averaging 13.7 PPG, 3.9 rpg, 2.6 apg and shooting 42% FG and 35.6% 3PT. Just went in on the 17th and is a NC kid originally... worry is he's only played 1 full season of the 3
Don't think that will happen. He got thrown out of 2 games last year and then got kicked off the team.

I wonder if that Hubbard kid from Miss St will enter the portal if comes back to college.

Would be nice if we kicked those tires lmaoo

Realistically I don’t think Marsh, Dorn, Bynum or Turner are options, not much need or fit, I’ll leave them on there, but don’t see much there. So the attention turns completely to guard, 3 spots open but realistically I would think that’s 2, gonna be hard to afford 3 quality guys imo, so focus imo would be on landing 2 of..

Rodney Rice
Alex Chaikin
Rakease Passmore
Jayden Stone
Jaiden Glover
Duke Miles
Denzel Aberdeen
Jestin Porter
Malik Thomas
Malik Thomas would be my choice

I see we are worried on this board about losing rebounding from guards, yet we have (when healthy) our best overall productive frontcourt depth :
6'9" Cade Phillips and improving
6'11" Felix Okpara and improving
6'11" JP Estrella who is overlooked and really good
6'8" Jaylen Carey who will rebound as well and is very tough
6'9" Dewayne Brown freshman no telling how good he will be
---
Nate Ament won't be getting 10 rebounds a game as ive seen suggested. All over his tape we have seen him guard successfully from the perimeter as well as play offensively from the perimeter, yes he can position himself from the perimeter to get to his spots for that nice mid range MJ/Kobe fadeaway he has but I doubt he will be plugged in at the 4 when all 4 of (Phillips, Okpara, Carey & Estrella) are healthy. We will see him at the 3 and at most I think he would grab on average a good 6.5-7.5 boards a game for us.

Gotcha, my understanding has been if the 5th year thing passes it does away with the COVID waiver and redshirts, it’s 5 to play 5, that’s it,
I understand that for kids going forward, but I'm shocked they'd enforce it retroactively. I guess these cases are probably few and far between. Covid year cases should be extinct after this year, so that is not an issue going forward, as are non-injury redshirts. The medical RS thing is tough, though.

Yea I agree, and maybe they’d run into a lawsuit like with everything else.

There was a poster who said Phillips was heading to the portal, and didn’t SF say there’s a situation he can’t talk about with one of our big men? I’m assuming things have changed and that’s no longer the case ??

My only worry there... would be rebounding. Igor despite his shortcomings still lead the team in rebounding. Felix a close 2nd...but something people don't appreciate a lot was that the Shack and Chaz both were good for 4 rebounds a night.

Not saying Rice/Miles/Ja'Kobi can't rebound... but thus far in their careers it's not been shown they do it at the same level as the guards we're replacing. Would be another positive to add to Malik his rebounding numbers matching Chaz

I think Ament at the 3 or 4 is going to be a weapon...but I'd really like to have a guard that can/will rebound pushing 4 a game at least.
Cedric Coward averaged 7 rebounds per game and shot 40% 3pt, but there doesn't seem to be any interest in him.

If you look at my history ITT I am a big fan of his, but yeah for some reason he's not on our list. Missing a full season with a shoulder injury (after what we got from Key) might be part of the lack of interest.

So let’s say there is an injunction tomorrow that prevents the NCAA from enforcing its four year eligibility rule (in essence, giving a fifth year) - how does the timing work out for players (for example, ZZ) who are fourth year seniors? Would they have to enter the portal if they wanted to play a fifth year but their current team was not an option for whatever reason? I’m not really asking with respect to ZZ specifically, he is just the clearest example of this player profile to anyone in this forum.
