2025 Transfer Portal Thread

Much like Aberdeen, I don't think Miles is coming here to play off the bench. He started all 34 games for Oklahoma, last year. If we land Rice, I don't see Miles coming here, but if we don't land Rice, I think the drop-off to Miles is significant. I'd prefer we swing for Malik Thomas first in that case.
I’m curious if they’d look at Ament as a 4 out small ball 4 type, if that is the case then Rice & Miles have wide open starting spots. At the very least I would think Ament plays some 4, even if that’s not his starting lineup spot. If you have Gillespie, Miles, Rice & Ament on your roster that’s still 120 minutes at the 1-3 for 4 guys, sure 1 may not start, but you’ve got 4 guys playing starter minutes.

Just posted basically the same thing!

Aberdeen plays that defense that Barnes likes. May need this especially if Mashack not back with the 5 year rule being held up. Aberdeen would have been a much higher scorer if not for all of guards Florida had. My understanding is Florida not funding as much NIL for this next year. They are doing right by letting Aberdeen go out and get more money. Florida has some cheaper in house options and will likely add some guys like Chiakin, which we should be looking at.

Aberdeen is probably a better player than Rice. Better defender and better at getting to the rim. Shot 35% from three in a tougher conference. Rice shot 35% in Big Ten play.

I really wanna know the story of what happened with him and Florida. I saw it was a money thing. Surprised he left them.

My only worry there... would be rebounding. Igor despite his shortcomings still lead the team in rebounding. Felix a close 2nd...but something people don't appreciate a lot was that the Shack and Chaz both were good for 4 rebounds a night.

Not saying Rice/Miles/Ja'Kobi can't rebound... but thus far in their careers it's not been shown they do it at the same level as the guards we're replacing. Would be another positive to add to Malik his rebounding numbers matching Chaz

I think Ament at the 3 or 4 is going to be a weapon...but I'd really like to have a guard that can/will rebound pushing 4 a game at least.

I think Ament can definitely play that stretch 4 role they'd like to have seen Igor succeed in, last year. I definitely think we need to land at least 2 guards who you can rely on to play major minutes and I trust Barnes to sell the vision to them.

I think landing two of those guys is probably more likely if one of them isn't Rice, to be honest.

Rice is a much better option than Miles. Miles is in the Aberdeen category of players best to come off bench.
Rice is good but I’m yet to understand this boards obsession with him . Yeah I’d love to have him play here but the guy wasn’t 1st,2nd,3rd team or even honorable mention all big ten. There’s a dozen other good shooters out there. Sure the chemistry with Gillespie could help or it could hurt like with Knecht in LA beside baby Bronny. I don’t know. I just know he ain’t worth no 3 mill.

6'4" and 200lbs (already a SEC body/frame for SG)
Played with JG
Played on a top 10 team in Maryland in arguably the 2nd best basketball conference
Likely has 3 years left (without the 5th year rule change)
Former top 60 player in his HS class
3 level scorer

Durant averaged almost 12rpg in college, not saying Ament is him but their builds are similar, if he’s playing the 3 he should be able to grab a crap ton of boards off just length alone…you’d hope Okpara is better this year, not that he was bad but just continued improving, and then Carey should be really good on the glass

And he won’t get close to that here

Right...I think Ament playing 30 or more mpg will be able to hit 5-6 RPG. I also think Felix improves, but that still doesn't pick up the slack for Shack/Chaz (even Gainey) all 3 of the names you mentioned have been closer to ZZ in rebounding thus far in their careers...so one or all 3 would need to improve their rebounding as that's one area Barnes gets frustrated with guys since most the time it's a lack of effort.

How does Miles have any eligibility left? Did he get a medical redshirt at some point? He has been in college since the 20-21 season, so I assume he had a COVID year, but that still puts him at 4 years.

I’m sure this isn’t the case, but feels a little to me like the staff is focusing on 2 kinds of guards and probably wants 1 from each:

Scorers:
Rodney Rice
Malik Thomas
Alex Chaikin
Jestin Porter
Jayden Stone

Defenders:
Duke Miles
Denzel Aberdeen
Rakease Passmore
Jaiden Glover
One from each list from the top 1-3 is a win in my opinion.

Oh Rice is the best player on our board still uncommitted but his timeline keeps getting pushed out every couple days. His agent is playing games I feel like and I dont want to deal with Nico 2.0.

I like the kid, and Jakobi loves him, but everything as to end at some point.

I would assume at medical redshirt, he only played in 6 games in his 3rd year in college

He actually might have two years.

Redshirt in 22-23, and his freshman year was the covid year.

I would expect Ament to be much closer to 10rpg than 5 imo

His 3rd year at Troy he only appeared in 6 games before getting a medical RS and then that 2020-21 year was the "doesn't count" covid year

2021-22
2023-24
2024-25

He's played 3 years that "counted" and has 1 left.
