You’d be in the minority because you’re discounting experience. We have TWO scholarship QBs on the roster, neither with starting experience…not ideal. Name a program with any hope of competing this season that rolls with that dynamic.I'm probably in the minority here but, if we can't roll with one of the two 4 QB's we already have on the roster, then we likely have a QB coaching deficiency.
Not really. Most guys have good situations like the Iowa St guy. Loves the community and his teammates. It’s just late for some kids to make a move. We would be in much better shape if not for the timing imho.Sounds just like the coaching search days. Does UT have the ick and us fans just aren't aware? Lol
Don't know much about this guy, but with a history with Lebby, that sounds like a match made in heaven. Is he a one year guy? If so, he'd be ideal....depending on what his asking price is. Just like UCLA had leverage with Nico, any transfer QB will have a distinct advantage in negotiations with UT. Wonder if he'd be worth 3+mil?Some info on Altmyer that may ease some concerns IF he turns out to be the guy:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Mississippi native started his career at Ole Miss before transferring to Illinois ahead of the 2023 season. Altmyer spent one season at Ole Miss playing under offensive coordinator Jeff Lebby, who runs essentially the same offense as Vols head coach Josh Heupel (Lebby, who is now the head coach at Mississippi State, spent two seasons working under Heupel at UCF, including one season as Heupel's offensive coordinator).
The one year of experience in Lebby's offense would seemingly make Altmyer an ideal fit for Tennessee. Heupel's offense can take some time for quarterbacks to master, but Altmyer's previous experience under Lebby would make the transition a bit easier.
Altmyer passed for 2,717 yards and 22 touchdowns (with just six interceptions) while leading Illinois to a 10-3 record in 2024 (which is tied for the most wins in program history).
Oh for sure if the coaches don’t think a RS freshman in his second spring or true freshman who has been on campus for 5 minutes are either one ready to take us to the playoffs there definitely must be a QB coaching deficiency….I'm probably in the minority here but, if we can't roll with one of the two 4 QB's we already have on the roster, then we likely have a QB coaching deficiency.
Nico's camp used the timing to maximize their leverage and legitimately thought that Tennessee would pony up. Instead, it ended up being a hard lesson on the topic of FAFO.Not really. Hadn't thought about that angle. Likely the case, but he did put us behind the 8 ball on his way out. Pretty sad if you can't at least exit gracefully and show some common courtesy and respect for your former coach and teammates. Really puts team Nico's character in a very bad light if true.Nico's camp used the timing to maximize their leverage and legitimately thought that Tennessee would pony up.
