Nico “Tampering” - told you so

Pro sports is not the same as the corporate world. Pro sports have an additional set of rules that keeps the sport credible and competitive. NFL teams do get penalized for tampering. College football is now a pro sport and needs to implement some controls or it is going to lose all appearance of credibility and fairness.

Wrong. Pri sports IS a corporate world.
Classic big business.

College isn't the NFL and the crimes are nasty different as the NFL has an antitrust exemption and union contracts. College does not.

Your comparison is apples to oranges.

Uhm... I get that people are upset with him.

But we don't win 10 games with Gaston Moore at QB.

Nicos running converted many crucial 1st downs that kept drives alive.

The Vanderbilt game! We were down 14-0 quick and Nicos feet got our offensse going

The Alabama were he converted a crucial 3rd and long where he juked the Bama safety and ran for 15 yards.
He didn't do anything 9 or 10 other starting SEC QBs couldn't do. Sure he was better than our 5th year walk on. If that's the bar you're setting I'll give that to you.

Nico spoke directly with at least three schools, including Georgia and Oregon during the season about what it would take for him to transfer. 100% facts.
"Nico Iamaleava, a former Tennessee Volunteer quarterback, has been in direct contact with at least three schools: Oregon, Ohio State, and Colorado, according to a post on X. He also reportedly contacted Georgia, but Ohio State and Colorado are mentioned as being potential destinations. The post on X mentions that Oregon, Ohio State, and Colorado had agreements in place to make deals with Iamaleava if he transferred. However, it's also noted that Iamaleava is limited in where he can transfer due to SEC conference rules. "

Corroborative? No. Yet...

Corporate world works to eliminate competition. Pro sports is big money, but it needs competition and fair play to maintain fan interest and hence revenue. So pro sports needs collective bargaining, an antitrust exemption, team salary caps, trade rules, etc. College is also big money and needs the same mechanisms or it will degenerate into chaos and eventually lose fan interest.

Weird self bump. OP seems quite the narcissist.
I dunno - I never followed this thread until the bump. I kinda don't blame him for bumping. In January, we didn't know (metaphorically) that our bride was contemplating a split, and we were still "in love". At that time, it was blasphemy to even hint that our 5 star QB was looking around. Also we didn't know about him not fulfilling NIL events such as autograph signings and sitting with the TV crews on game week for an interview. Nico was AWOL on some of these events and an article I read said that when he was supposed to be somewhere signing autographs, his Dad would call and cuss out the people who set it up and Nico wouldn't go.
NIL (Name, Image, Likeness). Signing autographs is part of the payday Nico. Until the players get a flat salary, NIL is the song and dance used as an excuse to get paid and Nico didn't even play that game. Well, his Dad in the drivers seat on that one.

I don't know OP or any of his other posts, and but yeah, I don't blame him for a victory lap. He got beat up pretty bad here.

To counter that, we had multiple scoring opportunities where Nico missed guys running behind the safeties for touchdowns. He also threw an awful, JG worthy pick in the red zone . He definitely had some very good moments in that game, but this was the season we all hoped that he would put it together and become more accurate on some deep shots

I got beaten up pretty bad last year suggesting Aidoo could transfer. Got roasted. I didn't bump the thread to say I told you so(I didn't say he would transfer, I said I was concerned it could happen). Instead, I just made passive aggressive references to it sporadically over the last year. I kinda just did it again.

If that happens, get ready for player unions, involuntary trades, and strikes.

Not to mention a 131 team draft instead of recruiting, and the military academies dropping back to FCS or even Division 2 or even giving up variety sports.
Can you imagine the two weeks draft process it would take to draft that many guys to fill out a 105 man roster? Then there would be employee status and no student requirements? That would eliminate the 5 year limit on team membership, and dropping some great players from the teams to make room for more talented newcomers...just like the pros do now.

Be careful what you wish for. You might get it.

He spoke with the schools I mentioned last season while we were still playing.

Who initiated the contact?

It is not tampering if Daddy Nic called them. And if Dan Lanning notified CJH, as reported, that certainly is not tampering.
That I don’t know, but based on what we know now I'd say it probably went both ways.

Vanderbilt got up 14-0 and started rushing on 3 players giving NICO 6 seconds to throw.
Nico in really need too much time in the pocket and or run.
Could not read a defense or counter a blitz.

Agree. And even so, OK, he made a handful of plays over an entire season. I have to believe Moore coulda made at least a few plays, too.

Nico shows significant upside. But seeing all of this makes me believe that his development will be very stunted.

Great ones work to be great. All I see with Nico is a family with their hands out.

I, for one , was not at all upset that Aidoo hit the portal. He would have been good coming off the bench, especially with the injury to Estrella.
