2025 Transfer Portal Thread

Anything you hear prior to “he’s committing” is going to be nonsense. The various projections I’ve heard aren’t consistent with the state of things. All efforts are focused on closing Rice and Freeman. We are definitely having several other conversations with wings, but we see these guys as the top of the pile for getting the right 2 and 3/4. Both visits went as well as they could go without committing. Rice isn’t planning more visits and the sentiment is that we lead and this will be done soon. Hard to know if someone will keep bidding and causing static. Freeman has endless interest from new programs every day, but also seems close. Nothing new on Ament. Everyone thought he’d decide this week, but it’s been pretty quiet after Barnes visiting him. They’ll be a new batch of visits next week assuming everyone passes reviews and wants to come. There are B level kids doing ten zooms a day. Lots of chaos.

Supposedly he’s stayed in touch with Gillespie and coaches daily. I don’t like the pace, but he definitely hasn’t gone quiet.

Good to know. I still think we land him, but it’s hard to keep the confidence high with each passing day, simply because more names come off the board elsewhere and so his asking price and suitors will only get higher as more teams get desperate.

I know I shouldn't be so wrapped up in the decisions of 18-22 year olds, but I would by lying if I said I wasn't excited. I really hope Barnes can close this strong as I really hope he gets the championship roster we need to break through our ceiling as a program.

Did not think the Rice saga would take so long. Hope we hear something soon. Yes, I know I’m impatient.
It shows a lot of wisdom for these kids who are diligent in appraising all their offers. Lanier was diligent and thorough in his consideration of his offers. He turned out to be a terrific kid in all areas. I think we are going to be okay after all is said and done, but we can be pretty confident we won’t end up with the basketball version of Nico, which is a good thing.

Congrats to them for winning it this year. They lose their 3 best guards who got them that title. Several teams were right there with them this year including Vols. They just happened to win it this year.
I wish we would just happen to win it some year or stumble into a Final Four. Funny how that just keeps happening to the Gators.
