Recruiting Football Talk VIII

100% correct here. Sure he’s gonna get some slack for the Nico thing but this is a big distraction from continuing to keep awful coaches like Elarbee. Our OL is going to be below average in the SEC without some insane spring portal signings.

We have a very legit chance to win 7 games which will be very bad for the program

I don't get this mindset...OL is probably the #1 position group where you want to build from HS talent. Guys with 2 or 3 years in your system end up being starters.

We've recruited 4 & 5 star HS talent at the OL in every class.

Sanders Jr - 5 *
Nic Moore - 4 *
Bennett Warren - 4 *
Max Anderson - 4 *
William Satterwhite - 4 *
Shamurad Umarov - 4 *

We've also added portal guys each class to help get experience and depth. Some of those pieces won starting roles even. Now...I am a bit worried we've really not seen an Elarbee HS recruit starting yet. That's for sure fair, but he also inherited a young OL group originally...

Much more likely we have a Top 5 OL in the SEC than a "below average" OL this season.

I don’t think Elarbee can recruit well or develop his own talent. It is year 4 now and he’s yet to have a recruit start. And all the chatter was that we got Sanders despite GE, not because of him

Nico and his handlers set a bad example. He was the team leader, even if he was not a good leader. I think they would both be better off at Tennessee, and I hope they see it that way. Recall that Big Nick was not only asking for mo money on the regular, he took it upon himself to get all up in Heupel's business about how to run the offense, especially the passing game. And Matthews and Boo were directly involved in those enhancements. There is no reason to imagine that Heupel wouldn't add new features to his offense without a player's dad acting like it was his idea.Re
Reminds me of Lonzo Ball and his medling father. I don't know why a parent thinks he knows best at that level.

This season will go a long ways to answering that. Satterwhite is in line to start at center and according to VQ Umarov and Perry have really come on at guard to the point that Umarov especially is pushing the transfers for a starting spot.

Whatever people think about Elarbee, I actually think we upgraded the OL. Just my opinion. But Sanders is an upgrade at RT, and the two transfers are solid in the middle.

The OL struggled at pass blocking early last year but continued to run block well. While Elarbee may not be the best in the conference, I just have a hard time saying he's awful with the results we have gotten so far.
