2025 Transfer Portal Thread

Oh really?
1:55 am and you're on the Volnation customer service line?

How can I help you?

I wish I could warranty the things I hear from people close to the program, but that isn't my domain. Do we all forget that there are waiting and letdowns when guys sign other places every year?

I think what every team is seeing is that players are being advised to play it out longer because there are outlier examples of teams that are overpaying in the extreme. Before Rice arrived, he said he'd commit if we had the things he needed. We do. He didn't. We still may lead, but like most of the guys in this cycle, they are pushing for the lottery deal because there are examples of it working. Sorry. Life isn't the way you want it sometimes. @Stoerner Fumbles do you have any sense of whether it was us or him that canceled the Passmore visit? It caught my attention a little when one of the YouTube talking heads suggested if it was Tennessee that canceled, it could be because we like where we’re at with our portal pursuits.

Wtf does this even mean?
"Tennessee has positioned themselves quite well in this race. They feel really good about their chances and have done everything possible to land Ament. At this point in time, I'd say that things are trending Tennessee's way and Ament signs with Tennessee. Unless he changes his mind...then he might trend away. The staff feels good, but they don't fully know. Neither do I. We'll see. 9.95 please."

Last update SF gave on Passmore in this thread was shortly after all the "canceled visit" talk came out, and SF said there hadn't been a visit scheduled yet nor one canceled. There have been talks of planning one, but nothing made yet.

- AP on Ament
Seems like between Rick visiting him Monday, having a competitive offer, pitching him on being the star at Tennessee, vols have down everything they can. Guess we'll see if it beats out the allure of playing at duke with the boozers

I keep seeing Duke fans on X saying something along the lines of “it depends on what Slim does” when it comes to their recruitment of Ament.

Wonder if Ament is waiting to see if Evans transfers/leaves.

Exact quote

Hmm I’m confused then. A Friday visit by Passmore was initially reported by at least 1 media outlet.
From the article: “Also, according to Rocky Top Insider’s Ryan Schumpert, Kansas transfer Rakease Passmore will be in Knoxville for a visit on Friday.”

From Basilio's blog this morning:

"Rick Barnes met with Nate Ament and his recruitment is getting goofy. Those around Tennessee don't think the kid knows where he's going ... As it is he has no idea. As in it's getting late and goofy ... It's still Tennessee and Duke and the asking price is north of $3 million. And unlike Big Nick figures that's some real cheddar ... I wouldn't overreact to Rodney Rice visiting USC. Remember the visit to LA is a production of his agent Joey Pennavaria who's simply using the Trojans interest to get a raise out of Tennessee. Will it work? For what it's worth Tennessee thinks they're getting him in the end."

Currently in LA
USC has a interesting situation, where they have Alijah Arenas - 7th ranked recruit, who will probably play the 2 spot, Claude who is the top scoring PG, and then three 6'6 - 6'7 guys, 2 of which are from the portal.

Only ways I see Rice getting minutes at USC is if he plays over Alijah Arenas, by which his dad might have something to say about that (Gilbert Arenas) or he plays at the 3 spot, which would have them playing small ball.

I don't think its a good fit even if they do offer more money.

Lol not that I want it that way.. Just thought it was funny how hit and miss your “sources” are. BTW only 10 of the top 50 transfer portal players are uncommitted. Not that many guys playing it out.. We are moving slower than the majority of teams.

Wtf does this even mean?
Others have already given their interpretation, but I think it means that even though the staff can’t read Ament’s mind and know 100% where he’s leaning, they feel like given what they do know, things are in their favor. In other words, without the kid outright saying it, the staff believes they are leading. That’s how I took it.

Usually, when AP phrases things like this, it means he believes we are leading without completely spelling it out.

They’re punishing you on purpose. I don’t think they’re hit and miss. I just think trying to push pace isn’t working. Look at the deal size that the top end are getting. That’s the important data. Many of them knew where they were going before they got in. I’m not sure if you’re being a prick by putting the word sources in quotes, but I feel pretty good about where I get my information.

Wasn’t trying to be a prick. I understand no one bats 1.000.. just thought it was funny how that narrative ended up being totally off base. Seems you have good info most of the time.

I love the implication that you're somehow responsible for the timing and outcome of each recruitment because you shared info on it. Some people just can't be satisfied with content and understand that it's a snapshot in time.
