There’s no comparison in the 2. King doesn’t fit our offensive philosophy and they’ve essentially built that offense around him at Georgia Tech to cater to his strengths and hide his weaknesses. He’s not a guy that’s going to beat you with his arm and is more of a between the tackles down hill runner. If you want an offense that is more less like what we ran last year King is our guy. Avery Johnson on the otherhand could easily come in and be everything Nico was supposed to be. He has a live arm and live legs, but he seems to throw with better touch than Nico and is by all accounts a great locker room guy that could be one of the dawgs of this offense that we will need. I think we should also try to get his WR1 Jayce Brown and to be honest I think we pay them just about whatever it takes to an extentOh like his game too. If you had to choose between King or Johnson who you takin?
Well, in that case, I’ve got a year of eligibility left and I’m waaaay older than King. I’ll pick up this offense in two shakes of a stick. Of course, these days I run about 7.5 40, throw the ball about 40 yards if my shoulder doesn’t get dislocated in the process and I’ll do it all for the low, low price of a year supply of Buc-ees brisket sammiches.
I'm not saying I wouldn't rather have Johnson but you are selling Haynes King way short. I watched probably 5 Tech games last year and saw him complete passes under pressure in a real football game (as opposed to underwear olympics) that we could only dream of Nico's sorry azz completing. He is a good and elusive runner with great instincts about when to take off too which you can't teach. I doubt he leaves his team high and dry but he would a major upgrade over what we had last year. There’s no comparison in the 2. I think if we changed our offense he would be a guy that could win 9-10 games for us. I just don’t think he would be able to come in and run a completely different offense and I would hope Heupel tweaks the offense for whichever guy we bring in, but Heupel isn’t going to install a completely new offense in the summer and Tech’s offense is completely different from what we doI'm not saying I wouldn't rather have Johnson but you are selling Haynes King way short. I think it would be fine. We'd have probably been undefeated in the regular season last year if he had been our quarterback.I think if we changed our offense he would be a guy that could win 9-10 games for us. Not if the kid is worth the money we're gonna pay.So we want a kid willing to bail on his team this late I to spring for a bigger NIL payday. Wouldn't this negate the "Josh is fighting the system" story?
The "Josh is fighting the system" narrative is baloney anyway. Only simpletons believe that. We just made the business judgment that Nico wasn't worth what he was asking and let him walk. If he was Hendon Hooker, we pay him, it's pretty simple. So we want a kid willing to bail on his team this late into spring for a bigger NIL payday. And the cost would have been so much more than just the money. His skipping practice and ghosting the staff was an intolerable action that could have disrupted the team chemistry even more had the University given in to his demands. The "Josh is fighting the system" narrative is baloney anyway. Yeah, it was definitely the right call, no arguing that. Him skipping practice and ghosting the staff was a direct result of not paying him though. If he had gotten a deal he wouldn't have done those things. And the cost would have been so much more than just the money. We don’t know yet. But why bring him in and chance losing Merk, GMac or both? Does King know Heupels system like Merk? Has he earned the trust of the players and the staff like Merk? No he hasn’t. Also, what guarantee can you give that he could just walk in here, learn the system enough to operate it at a high level and beat out Merk? Oh that’s right you don’t. He isn’t worth it imo.Is what we have mid?
