Problem is - what WR is going to want to come here to catch balls from Merk? A guy who has like 10 career snaps. Plus when has a WR transfer here ever had an impact in year 1. Especially after missing spring.

I really truly believe in long run we will be better off. We will have to find a QB.

Was hoping there wouldnt be a massive dropoff with Merklinger, whom ive never been that impressed with. He def seems to have more leader qualities, than Nico.

Maybe the coaches can get some receivers and scheme some stuff up. Hoping, just don't have a ton of confidence.

I don’t understand the no love for Merk crowd. He was a top 5 qb in his class, played HS in Georgia, has been with the program for over a year. It’s the same situation that we had with Nico before this season except Nico had the bowl game, which really only told us he could run the ball. Let it play out

Harrison Bailey was a big time GA prospect, even won a State Title I recall.

Who knows, but dont want to roll into the season with a QB with no experience. We need to get a QB.

At that point I would rather get a depth piece at QB and then hand the keys to George if you could get about 10-15 lbs on him before kickoff. Granted it was a glorified practice but George looked better to me than Merk Saturday.

The Hendon spring game is good memory, and we should also be careful in judging Merk from O&W game as the format wasn’t what it normally is, we don’t know script/gameplan/etc, and his whole world got flipped in 48 hours. Not saying we are rising with him, or I think he is next Manning- just would warn against snap judgement.

I’ve seen plenty of FB vols (the worst kind) crown GM as starter after his TDs

He was #8 IIRC. He played in Savannah, not the biggest hotbed in GA.

No one (and probably Merk himself) expected him to play a significant role this year. Plus, he’s getting recruited over with BF.

And Spring games have and always will mean next to squat in terms of what to expect. HH wasn’t spectacular in his 1st one here either.

Ultimately I think fall camp becomes an open competition between the 2 Freshmen and whatever transfer we grab. See which one steps up with the pressure on and takes the starting spot for themselves.

That would work if we went out and spent that money on some real impact players. But we also thought that would happen during the winter portal

AP did say in an interview today that Merk looked really good this spring and a lot of coaches that went and watched practice sometimes walked away saying he looked better than Nico

Looking good at routes on air does not mean you can manage game speed and properly see the field vs a real defense.

I hope I am wrong but I can see TN ending up with whoever gets beat out at Ohio State or ND at QB. Also I hope Twitter AI isn’t Nostradamus but Drones from Vtech keeps showing up on my feed….maybe their fans are talking about him and TN…idk.
