1. If this were true then every player would revert back to their old ways. Repetitions are what create consistency. But he may not be guy. Odds of him being the guy are slim but I’m rooting for he and gmac.So this might be a bad take, but I don't think Merk is the guy. His motion and mechanics are just too far off at this level to be a fast processor and accurate at the same time - the game will be too fast for him. The coaching staff is working with him on changing the mechanics but under pressure people normally revert back to the old natural style and it just won't work. His head will be spinning iMO.
GMac on the other hand has the tools, but how fast can he get up to speed over the summer. Could we see a two QB system for a few games? Can GMac get the playbook down enough to start as a freshman? If he does, does that have any impact on Brandon Faizon?
Portal QB - I think for all the reasons above you shoot your shot for a starting portal QB. I have heard some names floated but no one really knows until the portal opens this week. For any short term success I think you have to take a portal QB with the intent that he starts the season and then maybe GMac is your No 2 and get's up to speed quickly.
Yes sir! Like all kids, it’s gotta be “D1”. We shifted our approach his jr year, and here we are. A wonderful opportunity in front of him at a place he is wanted. The new facilities they are building are absolutely amazing for a d2 program! He had offers from a couple others that may be better programs, but he felt the best about GSU.Very good. People that never played don't realize how tough it is to get a single offer. It's tough for most players to just get some financial aid. Getting more than a 50/50 ride is solid.
Glenville is a great choice. It seems like the new structure is to get some college game experience and then transfer up if you can or even want to.
It's a huge opportunity to just get his foot in the door and have a chance at the next level. Hope he does great things. That "discounted" degree will give him a big boost on a good life after football.
A couple of interesting comments on RKW (104.5 the zone) this morning by Ramone Foster. He said GMac is the most accurate deep ball thrower and makes quick progressions to second and third options. Played in a Heupel style offense as a sophomore. Needs to add 20 lbs of good weight to his frame and once he does that he could be the starter. Ideally could add 12lbs between now and start of fall camp. Made the point that Meatchicken will be starting a 5* so why not the Vols. He has seen several scrimmages since he is MK’s booth analyst.
I don't know. If he was always paid for potential what reason would he have to expect to be held to a standard strictly based on performance?
I enjoy Josh Pate's takes and yes, agree with him that the focus should be on what's best for College Football. Yesterday, he spoke of legislation in congress put forth to deal with the NIL era. Sounds positive.I just read it as Pate being really upset about it because he really loves college football.
A) A bit amazed Tulane had a QB worth 4 million a year and, B) Duke willing to put out that much money for football?Tulane lost their starting QB (Mensah: 2,723 yards, 22 touchdowns) to Duke with the Blue Devils paying a reported $4mil/yr. Not sure Nico could get near that amount of money from Tulane as they signed two QBs already.
Believe me, I am NOT a BB fan, and definitely not a Nico fan anymore
and there's nothing I love more than a good old fashioned comeuppance
but this has delayed their fate, at least for a little while
Nico goes to practice and answers/returns calls from coaches, then maybe he deserves some pity. He is a grown man who made his own bad decisions, regardless of the influence. I don't feel the least bit sorry for him.I was thinking last night, I actually feel kind of bad for Nico in all of this. He bears his own responsibility and isn't without guilt, for sure, but at the same time, your family's ways are normal to you, even if they aren't normal. He's starting probably the first season of realizing that there has to be a different way than the toxic control, lies and manipulation that he's been presented as 'normal'. And it's a hard/expensive way to learn.
You have to hate seeing so much promise getting flushed.
