Recruiting Football Talk VIII

After seeing this fall out..I was thinking back to all of the coaches who have expressed frustration with NIL in their press conferences factor in Dan calling JH…I suspect were about to see these coaches band together and blacklist Nico to prove a point to others who try the same thing…ultimately no one is bigger than a university.

I don't really think the NFL will care about this.

The NFL has this advanced technological achievement called contracts. They will literally never once have to deal with his dumbass handlers or parents.

I bet he's drastically overestimating his market value. He needs a team that is an average QB away from a championship to even sniff that number he wants. My guess is he and his dumbass team wrecked his image for maybe 10% more than what he was already getting.
Panthers scout was on my local sports radio station in Upsate SC and was asked about it.. he said “no, its just business” when asked if it’ll drop his draft stock.

Eh if a HC actually thinks Nico gives them a better chance to win games than their current option, they won’t hesitate to try and get him.

That was a real scumbag kind of scheme right there. And they probably already had it in the works to leave anyway. This is my opinion only: I don't believe they thought that Tennessee would cave and pay the $4M. If they did, they FAFO.
I don’t know I can’t imagine they were that forethinking and malintentioned. That is the end result though.

About to say something very unpopular. Let me preface it by saying this is not because of the Nico situation.

I'm beginning to doubt Heupel. Again, not because Nico is trying to extort more money. I keep looking at the bigger picture of roster construction and recruiting, and I'm not sure he's done well enough at either to take us to the next level. I want to believe he can, but the doubt is there. Not wanting to fire him. He's our coach at least until probation is over. But when probation is over, and all the hand cuffs are off, I think he'll really need to prove himself. 2022 created a lot of high hopes for me, but we've not seen the same QB play since. And both Milton and Nico were picked by Heupel, whereas Hooker fell into his lap.
No team with a blue chip ratio below 53% has one a national championship. No team with less than 50% has even made one. Last year we were at 46%, so if anything Heupel is overachieving. He’s without a doubt the best coach we’ve had in a very long time, which is a low bar but still.

No way. Some coach will need him.

2 of the 3 landing spots they’ve projected for him have zero interest…I’m just saying “major” universities will blacklist him. he’s on a fast path to ETSU right now…they’re D1 but not the same atmosphere at all like college gameday on Saturdays

I think you’ll see people who were fans because their parents were, but didn’t attend school there, lose interest from one generation to the next. If you didn’t go there and have something else within the vicinity to fill the appetite, what’s holding the loyalty intact? Can tradition only go so far?
I live in a neighborhood which is populated with mostly retired families from all over thr Nation. I have been a Tennessee fan since I was born in 1938. I am amazed at how many of the over 600 families who have moved into our community have become diehard Tennessee fans and are willing to pay premium prices for tickets to games in Neyland Stadium. They are trying to by season tickets and support the entire ath programs at Tennessee. Our fan base is solid and expanding with dedicated new fans.
