I'm angry, because they wasted 2-1/2 seasons on him and got nothing back in return. You can thank Sampson and the defense for even making the playoffs last season. We shouldn't hate him. He did us a favor. We don't need players at this program that aren't all-in on winning like him. He proved with his actions that he's more interested in making more money than improving his craft. We need a QB whose all-in not one who just looks at us as a paycheck.

I don’t buy it either. We’ll be fine. And if Merk shows out today, even better. This WR will rally around him. I think while most kids enjoy some NIL money, they also WANT to be here.I still don't get the mindset that other players will leave because Nico left.
Why? Because an average at best QB left
The WR Group might enjoy the change
Because Mike Matthews almost transferred previously and part of his decision to stay was his relationship with Nico.I still don't get the mindset that other players will leave because Nico left.

Believing this will happen is the mother of all things nega vol.
I'm a nega and I think it's an extreme pessimistic take
Likewise. I will take my chances also. I think Nico wanted to play Nico ball and not follow CJH's schemes. Relationship was good but the family and Nico probably living off of the HS team thought the team was to be built around him vs building a team that is about the program.I’m going out a little on a limb and saying with our moves/additions on the O line, the talent of this receiving corps and Merk having made big strides since last year (also hear he’s pretty cerebral kid), we may be very pleasantly surprised this season. Give me a “pretty good”, sharp qb with a lot of talent around him, I’ll take my chances with that all day.
After I watched him run out of bounds in the last 2nds in the Arkansas game, started having doubts. After the Ohio State game and demanding more money, I was ready to see him leave.I'm very glad for how much I criticized his play last year. you could tell his demeanor was not that of a leader. I got tons of hate for it but now I get to bask in the glow of knowing I was right all along and he really is a piece of California trash.
I'm proud of Heupel for telling him to GTFO. At least Tennessee got to go to the playoffs and be relevant for one year.
Now it's time for a hard reset.
I had read an article earlier this morning that Mathews leaving could be a consequence of Nico leaving as that was part of getting him to stay was that Nico was coming back this season. Nico lied.Because Mike Matthews almost transferred previously and part of his decision to stay was his relationship with Nico.

Why Mike Matthews didn't leave Tennessee football despite transfer portal temptation
Tennessee receiver Mike Matthews considered entering the portal this offseason, but he breathed a sigh of relief when recalling his decision to stay.www.knoxnews.com
