Per Thamel: Heupel informed team this morning that Vols would move on from Nico.

Where does Nico now rate on the hate rankings of former players in program history?

We shouldn't hate him. He did us a favor. We don't need players at this program that aren't all-in on winning like him. He proved with his actions that he's more interested in making more money than improving his craft. We need a QB whose all-in not one who just looks at us as a paycheck.

I’m not that concerned about Nico leaving. I am concerned though that this will open the floodgates and some of the guys on the roster that demanded raises in the spring are now going to bolt and leave us in an even worse position heading into the fall.
Which guys? If anything, this demonstrates to those guys that the staff and admin will not be bullied and/or extorted. If you’re here, it’s because you want to be a Volunteer first.

Precisely. Do not hate Nico. Be grateful we have a coach with a proper head on his shoulder. Pity Nico for having such bad advice coming from his own camp. Feel sorry for him because he just tarnished his name and image.

Title says it all. I don’t have Twitter so someone post the link.

Good riddance…not a leader and frankly missing practice and communicating with others…he is a complete POS! The NCAA is a bigger POS and has ruined the greatest game ever! The hell with Nico….See ya! I always liked Heupel. It now I have even more respect for him. He’s a great coach and even better man!

The Gas Pipe is still available baby, run it back.
I respected Gas for coming in and immediately slinging the ball 50 yards down the field. It didn't always work out, but the secondaries had to check themselves. He seemed to move the offense at a faster clip as well.

Wow, I knew after yesterday this was gonna happen. Sucks but if there isn't even a shred of loyalty then you have to go. If he would have balled out for us this season he would have had more than enough money. Then again how much is enough for some people? Good luck to him, let's roll with Merck.

We want know until we know. Matthews will be there and play. Do you hit the Portal because of a player or because of the coaching staff

This speculation is out of nowhere. It is a munity I guess. I going to the portal because Nico went.
Time will tell.

He will not be playing in the SEC if he does and one would think that is where he would want to be. He could go to other schools outside the SEC but sorry.
I guess you don't think these backup QBs are worth a crap.
Probably not as talented but at least they have a brain.
My thought problem earlier was could Carson Beck transfer to the SEC now, since he'd be coming from Miami. Everyone thought I meant would we want him but I'm wondering if transferring to an out of SEC school, enrolling, then transferring to an SEC school might work to give the SEC the finger.

Mathews could enroll at GA State officially, then decide to go to UGA. He'd be following the letter of the SEC rule.

So now all that Spyre money goes with Nico, and UT and the contributors get nothing out of it.

And...we now only have 2 school quarterbacks with little or game experience.
Josh needs to get in the portal jiffy quick for an experienced quarterback.
I'm pretty sure there is a claw back clause that we retain any money paid by another school above our offer. So if someone pays him $4million we break free. I probably didn't word that right; but if we had him at 2million. and Someone pays him 3.5 we save 1.5m I believe.

Guarantee the NFL doesn’t give 2 💩’s who he plays for in college or how many schools he shakes down.
I agree with this totally, but he will have to get to the table first. Talent wise and smarts. Right now he had a RS year favorable and a serviceable year as a Freshman. Hasn't proven to be NFL worthy on the field as of yet. Needs time. New environment will be good for him and us.

I’m going out a little on a limb and saying with our moves/additions on the O line, the talent of this receiving corps and Merk having made big strides since last year (also hear he’s pretty cerebral kid), we may be very pleasantly surprised this season. Give me a “pretty good”, sharp qb with a lot of talent around him, I’ll take my chances with that all day.

Right move by UT and Heupel but I feel sorry for Nico who is trusting his father who seems to be the one spearheading all of this.

Hits home even more because I have a son who is a freshman at UT and I couldnt imagine doing something like this to him.
And his agent. One of the articles stated his agent was asking for 4 million. My guess is the agent wanted his cut and pushed Nico into thinking he would get it. One of the factors not talked about in NIL. These agents are more greedy than the 18-21 year old kids.

I still don't get the mindset that other players will leave because Nico left.

Why? Because an average at best QB left

The WR Group might enjoy the change

Believing this will happen is the mother of all things nega vol.

I'm a nega and I think it's an extreme pessimistic take

His signing is on the level with signing Cornbread. One of the biggest disasters in the last 20 years.. What a bust

Good luck with that. We can settle for 3* kids from Sevier County but something tells me you don’t want that either.
