To do so at this point and wait until after you have taken all 1st team snaps during spring, shows your lack of dedication to a team. I say let walk. I can understand having those renegotiation conversations before the winter portal in the current college climate. but to leave last hour. Zero respect…Let's say you are the decision maker. Would you renegotiate with Nico right now, or move on and let someone else pony up more money?
I understand that he's played one full season as a redshirt freshman. Has he done enough in your mind to earn more at this time? How do you feel about the timing of this during spring camp?

Then why are you on a Tennessee site?I have no skin in the game as I am a Buckeye fan. But as an outsider looking in, I would opine that it's probably prudent to pay the asking price unless you are sure you can land someone of at least equal ability. Who else are you going to get ? It's not like there is an unlimited supply of QB talent that is able to meet the demands of the program. And what becomes available will also be heavily recruited by other teams. You will probably end up in a bidding war anyways. People don't like the new dynamics in the NIL era. But this is just the new reality of football in the NIL era. Everyone is complaining about NIL but it is pointless. You have to adapt and that's just the way it is.
Nico is still developing but it would be short-sighted to let him walk without a sure replacement in mind. You don't need a future HOF QB. You just need a good QB. And Nico is already good and has the potential to be great with the right supporting cast. After watching the matchup here in December, my opinion was Tn has no issue at QB. They do need more support elsewhere. OSU was dominating the trenches. Nico had little time to throw and he spent most of the game running around in the backfield. No QB is going to thrive when that happens. I saw no issue with Nico. It was other factors that led to the lopsided performance result.
Any team that can pressure him, he folds, makes mistakes, inaccurate throws. If he were to get on a team and not pressured he can probably do very good. He doesn't have a quick release, slow in making decisions. If Nico leaves, are you intimidated facing him leading an opposing offense? This is a good measuring stick for how you feel about any player.
It has been reported Merc is doing much better in the practice, that Nico very inaccurate with his throws. This same fan base suffered through a decade plus of buying football coaches on the cheap as well as years of futility with lower level basketball hires, always begging to open the pocketbook up and get a big name (with big paycheck) coach. Now, we are wanting to go cheap at our most important position? Replace Nico with whom, and what are your savings? You don’t know, because only the schools/collectives, the players, and the IRS (hopefully) know how much these guys are making. Yet, with non-existent knowledge you want to manage the team’s payroll. Nico has good athleticism and elite arm talent. His processing speed, OL (passpro, at least), and WRs were substandard last year. It’s Heupel’s job to make him better. I guarantee you Josh doesnt want him leaving the team five months before the season. We shouldn’t be encouraging it either. This outrage is silly.

Bye Felicia! Poor ability to read defenses, dumbed down offense for him. Defense was our saving grace! NextLet's say you are the decision maker. Would you renegotiate with Nico right now, or move on and let someone else pony up more money?

I agree...with all the media attention here it does seem to indicate all the other schools are waiting and watching to see how UT handles this as it is the first "high value " prospect / player that has held out to renegotiate.Naw. Tennessee has all eyes on them to see if they cave or hold firm. NIL as it stands is only as relevant as allowed by the schools. If Tennessee caves, then who is to say the next one doesn’t demand more than Nico? Don’t fall for the hype that NIL now is the new norm. It isn’t. Tennessee at the moment is either the Alamo or Pearl Harbor for capping NIL. Whichever way Tennessee goes with this situation, the rest of the schools and NIL follows.
No way in hell can nor should TN do that. Gotta thing long term and it just sets up more issues down the road when every player at every school tries to leverage a new deal.I have no skin in the game as I am a Buckeye fan.
