Let him walk!! Good grief…besides him
And his daddy throwing the team under the bus due to his crap performance against any D with a pulse and talking to other schools DURING last season. How many times does a guy need to renegotiate?? You signed what you signed.
From everything I have read on here he has overthrown or behind his intended targets more than his backup all spring.
He probably realizes his NFL prospects aren’t quite up to where he thought they would be at this point when coming out of high school and knows this is the only money he will make in football.
So over this preMadonna. There is no way TN could ever pay him what him and his dad THINKS he’s worth. Let him walk and go to a school in a state with a state tax!

He didnt lead the Vols to the playoffs last year!! That was done by a great defense and RB in spite of him.

Ohio State won with a very avg. QB. They separated themselves with their lines and skill players. Not a bad model to pursue.
Will Howard is not an average QB. He is the best QB prospect in the 2025 draft. He makes all the throws and has all the tools to succeed at the next level. He played out of his mind. He was clearly the best player in the college football playoffs and it's not even close. Who was better?

Bunches of people looking stupid this morning
Nobody looking stupid since we were reacting to reports (whether true or false) and this poll and thread are purely hypothetical as stated in the original post.

Does the validity of the topic sway your vote? Like, oh I'll vote move on if reports are true and I'll vote keep if not true?

Ya, there are a lot of people being made fun of for this. There are places on this site and other sites too.

I get that people are very invested in Tennessee football but that doesn’t change the fact that a whole lot of stupidity came pouring out of them based on a bogus made up report.

The reporter asked Nico and His father what was happening and was told the truth but ran the report anyway.
And the overreaction crowd ate it up.

Cam Ward is light years ahead of Howard. Every. Single. Draft expert/analyst has said. So are they all wrong?

Please give us a list of players that they draft experts were correct about. Cam Ward is not light years ahead of Howard. Howard can make the big plays, is a game manager it makes better decisions. The knock about Cam is that he doesn't make good and game decisions and that's a problem

Uh, I'll start with....Peyton Manning. Did you see Ward play at all this year? On that crappy team?? Much better athlete, stronger arm, much more creative. Not even close.

If he wants to be here he'll be here. If he wants to go I won't lose sleep. So far he's proven himself nothing more than an avg qb. He's only looked good against weak opponents but at least he doesn't throw a lot of interceptions. He scored 20 tds last regular season. Against Oklahoma, Ark, Fla, Georgia, and Alabama he had a combined total of 2 tds.

I'm sure he has the potential to be a great SEC qb, but we haven't seen it yet.
This^ I was worried we would lose him to a higher bidder in the beginning because I thought he was going to be generational. Great QBs make everyone on the team better, this team last year hung their hat on Dylan Sampson. Nico was a game manager at best and did an admirable job at that we squeaked out 10 wins, lost to a mediocre Arkansas.
Not a great QB but a team changer like Diego Pavia turned a bad team maybe a 2-win team into a 7-win team and a win over Bama. Now that is over performing, he willed that team to 5 extra wins.
IMO Nico is performing like an average SEC QB we can win 8 to 10 games with him if we pull out all the close wins. I just don't think this is going to be a high scoring offense with Nico and it seems like no high-level Receiver are dying to get here to play with him. So if calls or turnovers go against us this could be a low of 8 wins with a pretty favorable schedule considering some of our opponent's schedules.

Not sure we needed another thread about this even if it is a poll. Folks made their positions known in the other thread. Having said that, fans better be careful about believing everything they read on the net. They also might want to temper their comments in light of the fact that we don't really know the truth behind all this. Said in the other thread that something seems off on this one. The family saw what went down with Gibson. Even if they wanted to renegotiate, I find it very hard to believe they'd make it known publicly vs just texting or calling Heupel. Nah, something ain't right here. Kinda feels like someone wanted to do a Dick West and stir the pot and some others took the bait and ran with it.

Yep, Ohio State went out and got an experienced QB that others paid for and developed. This getting projected high 5 stars HS players you have to develop and pay them 2 million to sit a year. Then average play the next year and then he wants a raise. I think id change my model and go after experienced QBs that play for teams that can't make the playoff despite the QB balling out, save your money and portal guys like the Ohio State QB and spend money on all the others.

Pay him top 10 QB money with big incentives.
Respect is earned. Cant fuss about not having any talent to throw too, then demand more money. Market doesnt work like that.

Also, if market doesnt value you as a top 10. Then, lo siento. Nico absolutely has top 10 talent. The differentiator is very few people are Patrick Mahomes. People assume that Tom Brady and Peyton Manning just spontaneously happened.

Its the result of morning to night commitment, on an off the field. NFL teams place great value on intangibles. Look at Joe, every talent in the world. How you carry yourself reflects on the field, and carries over to business world.

That means assertiveness, leadership (taking charge), and being the guy. Nico has a huge opportunity this year. Its his money year.

He has a good contract. Over evaluation of one's value happens easily. Self honesty is hard.

Here's the high level question I keep asking.

Did Nico's play warrant a pay raise?

He makes $2Million per year.

10-2, playoff loss. He played out of his mind in the playoff loss. He did NOT have a ton of help. But, where would he, ergo the team have been without Dylan Sampson? Look at the OSU game.

Here's my answer. $2 Million is a good deal, for a sophomore SEC QB that has played good. Not great, just good. I think he lived up to his expectations. He was a RS Freshman. But lets not pretend he's Tim Tebow.

Status quo. Prove it, earn it.

All it takes is one Jackass to start a narrative false or not and this rabid fanbase jumps on it and takes it to the extreme. Truth, proof or validity have no bearing on the issue. Reminds me of how national politics work. Both parties are guilty of stating falsehoods and then they take on a life of their own. Reasonable people should be wary of all that is written and half of what's seen.
