Tennessee & Nico Iamaleava are in active contract negotiations ahead of the 2025 season

Well somebody is lying here. If Pete Nakos went with his “source” and posted the information without thoroughly vetting it, he should immediately issue a retraction and an apology to Nico and his family. Completely irresponsible if he did that. Clickbait society at its worst.
If your “source” is unnamed then it’s ********.

I'm puzzled by the hate here. Nico's ultimate focus is that second NFL contract and has been since high school at least. Playing college ball is what he has to do to get there. Playing for UT in the first place was because we offered him big money. He could've easily gone to Ohio State or USC or wherever.

College is just a stop along the way. I've seen Nico's name mentioned for NFL teams who need a QB in the next year or so. He's not "committed" to a college nor should he be. He's committed to getting that big payday on his second NFL contract.

Those who want him to "do right by UT" are forgetting that we knew this was a big money deal that got him to Knoxville so if it's still about big money....... nothing has changed in dynamics between UT and Nico.
“Puzzled by the hate.” The dude sucks and isn’t worth the money he has already been paid, no he is demanding more. If he looked like Hendon Hooker last year, then that would be fine, pay him what he wants. But the dude looked like Guarantano and is demanding champagne payouts for light beer performances.

On the other hand. You let Nico fleece you for 4 million now, Faizon will hold you over the fire for triple that in a few years.
For sure. Ohio State spent $50M. Like it or not, elite and successful rosters are going to require a lot of money.

Spyre was right there with the top schools when NIL first started but it seems the money is getting really big now. I don't know where we are in comparison now.

As folks have said, Saban likely saw that he couldn't get that kind of NIL money at Alabama and he dipped out.

We've seen this with a couple of players so it's possible Spyre is reaching the limit of what our donors can/will do vs the competition.

Well, Nico's dad explicitly called out Pete Nakos on social media and said Nakos called him directly asking about it. Then he said he responded with basically "what are you talking bout it?" and shut it down directly to Nakos. I haven't seen Nakos refute that anywhere yet. If that is accurate and Nakos didn't include that information in his reporting, that is a red flag for me.
I’d say the fact that Nakos reported this and Nico no showed for practice the next day probably means Dad is lying and the reporter is telling the truth. Which anyone with half a brain would have believed initially because the reporter has nothing to gain by making something like that up.

You don’t spend money just to spend it. Dan Snyder showed you that.

Lots of people on this board last night and this AM were choosing to believe Nico’s Dad

What do Vol fans think? Do we agree with Will West that there is no coming back from this now? Is Nico leaving a foregone conclusion?

Seems like it. I say they go and tamper and use the $2.3M wherever they think they need it most. If its a QB then so be it. If happy with Merk then go get a top WR and whatever else

lol. I didn’t read them all. My bad. He finally revealed himself before he died so the family could cash in.
Yes I read the book about him. A lot of people suspected him. I am in agreement with others that there is a mole inside the AD and I'd bet DW knows about it and calls the shots.

A bunch of people, probably not just Iamaleava, will want to revisit their worth after Duke paid whatever to get Mensah out of Tulane. If he's worth $4M a year while as yet unproven in the ACC, what's Nico worth? There's stupid money out there. One thing I'm sure of is our athletic department's in a lot better position than I am to decide what smart money looks like.

Every HS kid is a dice roll. You've obviously got a boner for Nico and that's your axe to grind, not mine. He isn't the second coming of Hooker or Peyton, no question, but you have a locker room full of guys who have been practicing thinking Nico is our guy.

It's fine if you want to bash him for his failures but he was the expected QB1 this year by a lot of fans and players. Just letting him go has ripples.
