Recruiting Football Talk VIII

I don’t want it to seem like I have an issue with Nico. I look at the market every 2 years and see if I can get a better deal. That’s part of the reason I have changed jobs as often as I have.

But I don’t think he’s night and day better than our other options. We are already paying him $2M a year. If he plays like we want next season, he’s probably in the NFL in 2026, and we aren’t good enough in other areas to win the SEC, let alone the national championship, even if he plays incredible.

Let him test the market.

And this system is untenable.

My buddy sent me the info this afternoon as I hadn’t seen it yet. I had the same thoughts as you. If you think you’re worth more, then prove it. I was certainly impressed by his athleticism, but I wasn’t wow’d by it. My verdict on Nico is still out there, as I feel like he’s got a lot of growing up to do, both in the game and in leadership capabilities, and this latest action proves the latter.

Personally I feel he needs to focus on improving his weaknesses (ie accuracy, especially with the deep ball) and less time pushing for more dollars. But I’m also not a 20 year old kid with $10M dangling in front of me from some other SEC school.

It does occur to me that part of what Soil is saying is accurate. Other is Nico may be seeing hwat is out there on the field, getting his money now while he can.

Rumor has it the Nico Camp reached out to Oregon, and Dan Lanning told our staff about it. Big time respect to Lanning if that’s true
Although I too would respect him, I put this rumor at .01% being true. You don’t get to that level of success in CFB by being humble and transparent with the opposition.

I think the truth is somewhere in the middle. I think the Iamaleava's arent saints in this, nor do I think TN is. Nico is making $8M we think.

He is QB1, needs to act it. If he isnt. $8M is real money for a college QB. Would hate to lose him, really mean that. We would take a step back. However, we are also spending money and hoping for return on that.

Real money, in a business. Needs to be treated as such. Smart decisions need to be made.

Honestly facts, im not going to go to another neutral site/away game until we start winning them. My last few away games were osu and uga last year and the mcb in ‘21
We haven’t lost a neutral site game since that MCB, and you went to the 2 toughest places to play (place and team) since Heupel has been coach lol.

Mountain Dew in those old green glass bottles straight out of the store cooler were so good back in the day. My aunt and uncle had and old country store with one of those floor model soft drink coolers and I'd get a bottle of Mountain Dew for .15 cents. They were great on a hot summer day.
I don't know if it is still common knowledge, but Mountain Dew was actually founded/created on Cherry Street in Knoxville.

My take is i respect those of you who are believing the on3 leak was a nothing burger, but I stand by what i posted even after cooling off. Dick news drop by his team and I think it backfired honestly. Pressure will be even higher for Nico to deliver. It also is worth mentioning that I have heard way more about the backups progress from VQ and others than Nico taking a leap. We.will see, but my confidence in this year is lower than the prior 3. Jmo imo don't taze me.

Hubbs asked a similar question about the lack of talk about Heard. Some said the fact he is at least practicing is good, but that's another to watch. High level dudes getting paid high level dollars (partially by regular level fans) have raised the expectations for themselves in the stadium and in public.

Toss rocks i probably earned em.

I've been binging it, 😂. It's pretty kooky, but I like that stuff. They talk about a lot of the weird topics. Let me know what you think about it.

This one is entertaining

Enjoyed the heck out of it. I can see why you're binging it. Now that college sports have gone off the rails, I think I've found a distraction.
