Trade Wars and Tariffs

I knew the quota had never been met.

And the US dairy industry isn't subsidized at all.

Crying (not necessarily you) over another country's subsidies...we might as well sit out of the game, fold our arms, and whine "not fair." Trump and protectionists are never gonna stop with this **** if we're concerning ourselves with subsidies.

I’ve always said we need to do away with all agriculture subsidies and price controls.

But of course you’re in support of whatever other countries do to hinder US imports.

Shouldn’t there be criminal activity first before investigating a crime instead of attempting to fabricate a crime then alleging somebody committed it? Assume innocence instead of guilt?

Never mind. I forgot that the accusers are democrats.
What crime was committed earlier in the week?

That was cruel. I hope that the SEC combs through the sellers and flush the scoundrels out. Put them in jail. But if it was Russia or China of NK or Iran behind it, what can they do?

Ahhh. So the entirety of beliefs and thoughts can be read on this board? What a stupid deduction made on half-assed assumptions. I don't hang out here exclusively for politics. When I have a bone to pick with liberal dipshitery I do it on liberal boards. This is MAGA hangout. So when I have a bone to pick with Trump, I do it here. I have no interest in circle jerking with you guys in MAGA comradery. I'm a centrist and bounce around to see what the various ideologues have to say. That's the value of this board since it slants far right.
A lot of words jumbled together to not answer the question of Pelosi.

What reason would I have for that? LOL.

But we won't get rid of subsidies, so who cares what you want? We're talking about what's "fair" with the reality of trade with Canada, and it appears we do a lot more dairy subsidizing than Canada does. Doesn't seem like quotas and subsidies are the "other half." It's just a point you can make to people who don't know we subsidize $0.35/liter of dairy.

Imagine thinking that the new baseline of:

- 10% universal tariffs
- 25% auto tariffs
- 25% steel tariffs
- 25% tariffs on 60% of Canadian goods (with the USMCA covering the rest)
- 25% tariffs on 50% of Mexican goods (with the USMCA covering the rest)
- 125% China tariffs

was somehow a "screwup" rather than a deliberate strategy. If these had been the tariffs in place on April 2nd, people would have lost their minds!

Instead, he introduced those outrageous initial tariffs, which he pitched as leverage to achieve his desired outcome. When he later removed them, his starting point became the tariffs listed above—levels that would have caused a panic if they’d been the opening move. And yet, the market thanked him for it!

Meanwhile, during that period, the Trump administration:

- Devalued the Yuan
- Left the Chinese economy in disarray (with Chinese sellers exiting Amazon)
- Got the GOP working on a Reconciliation Bill
- Secured Japan, Vietnam, Canada, and India, along with over 70 other countries, to negotiate new deals

Yeah, a total "screwup," right?

If the CCP is going to promote legalized theft, then ban food exports to them. Starve them. Then send relief supplies to their people with a narrative of what’s happening printed on the packaging.

Protect shipping lanes for everybody except what’s going in and out of China.

I got some bad news for you and the guy in the tweet. China has been stealing/counterfeiting stuff for a long time. this isn't a tariff/Trump thing.

Of course. China is a country of a billion people which means they have IP theft, and there is no strong incentive for the government to spend a ton of resources to eliminate all international IP violations. We have IP violations all the time in the US, too. You think because China has IP theft that their government is doing nothing about it? That's not what's happening. It's not 0 enforcement right now. It's inconsistent enforcement....which will always be a problem everywhere.

I have no idea where you got .35c/liter in subsidies? I’ve never heard of or seen dairy traded or referred to in liters here. Milk is traded in hundred weight in the states.

Based solely on the USDA’s national average farm-gate price and national average costs of production, Clark says American dairy farmers lost money every year from 2005 to 2016.

The report figures support granted to U.S. dairy farmers in 2015 represented approximately C$0.35 per litre — almost three-quarters of producers’ revenue.

I would take that propaganda piece by a Canadian dairy/agriculture group with a grain of salt. They used government nutrition programs, govt loan guarantees and subsidized irrigation systems (they don’t identify who paid) in their .35c per liter calculation.

Did Trump really tell people to buy stocks before chickensh!tting out on his terrible tariffs idea?
Shortly after US markets opened on Wednesday morning, Trump wrote on his social media platform Truth Social: “THIS IS A GREAT TIME TO BUY!!! DJT”.

Less than four hours later, he shocked investors by announcing a 90-day pause on additional trade tariffs on most countries except China, sending share indexes soaring.
Trump does not usually sign off his post with his initials. Those letters happen to be the same as the ticker for Trump Media & Technology Group, the business that controls Truth Social, whose stock shot up by 22% on Wednesday.

Just imagine if this happened under Biden with a black advisor. There would be DEI stories for weeks on end on Fox.
