Trade Wars and Tariffs

My son told me that Pelosi gained like 90% on her portfolio today. Is that true? Are politicians' holdings public knowledge?

The second one is better. Nancy makes all her money thru pillow talk with Paul though.

Same dumbasses that throw trash out the window of a car own boats. And what washes down to the river from ditches. It’s all the same. We’re fighting a losing battle against the pollution pecker heads but we still have to do what we can
Smokers are the worst.

Point the board where you’ve stated that. We can wait while you dance around it. It’s ideologue, no “a”.
Ahhh. So the entirety of beliefs and thoughts can be read on this board? What a stupid deduction made on half-assed assumptions. I don't hang out here exclusively for politics. When I have a bone to pick with liberal dipshitery I do it on liberal boards. This is MAGA hangout. So when I have a bone to pick with Trump, I do it here. I have no interest in circle jerking with you guys in MAGA comradery. I'm a centrist and bounce around to see what the various ideologues have to say. That's the value of this board since it slants far right.

Nobody ever seems to win when politicians start playing economics. Could be politicians don't understand economics - could be economists just don't understand nearly as much as they think they do - probably both really. Your side has a nasty habit of trying to spend their way out of a depression/recession with Keynesian logic - that just doesn't work either and leads to debt, inflation, and to a great extent explains a lot about why our labor costs are completely insane when compared to much of the rest of the world. The excuse for the failure "we didn't spend enough".

Look at the nonsense during Biden's term - the inflation, and the wage spiral - exactly what we didn't need. The UAW deal was insanity that even the absurd minimum wage hikes didn't match, but dems have always worked hand in hand with unions for votes. Ever think that antitrust regulations should be in play against unions - why should a union represent an entire industry when the companies being extorted can't work together? One word - democratic politicians and vote buying.

Trump always comes out smelling like a rose whether a NY bailout when real estate prices tank or bankruptcies that leave the investors and suppliers in the lurch. Most of us would see that (bankruptcy) as a failure; Trump is like a pig in slop - doesn't care that others got burned by his incompetence and lust for wealth.
both sides are Keynesians that never hold up their end of the bargain. Dems dont cut taxes or spending when they should and Republicans wont raise taxes when they theoretically should. When they do (Bush1) things dont go well for them.

When I read or hear someone use the term MAGA (or equivalent) on a regular basis, I just think the person is insane, a bot, or npc. That gag stopped working long ago and a bot can't recognize it or is not self aware.

To be fair, when you just randomly show up on a board one day and all your posts are basic Democratic party talking points with no independent thought, than, yes, people will think you are just a partisan hack.
To be fair, yall jump to conclusions on so many things, it's hard to take anything you say seriously. This place is a hotbed of far right partisan hackery. I still come here because it's informative. I can get the latest Trumplican talking points with a quick perusal. I can get the dumbass takes of liberals on reddit.

Then I can figure out what is sound and what is stupid for myself.

LOL I am exactly the opposite.
Same. That VZ divvy is nice. AT&T just couldn’t get out of their own way for the longest time. Probably would’ve been a smart play when they were $15/share, but their lack of responsiveness and inability to just focus on their core biz kept me away.

Burns me up to see laziness from people that refuse to take the time to dispose of their trash when using our lakes and rivers. Was returning to my marina one day and the a couple of small grocery (trash) bags flew out the back of a boat in front of me. They all saw it and laughed it off. I picked it up and returned it to them when I saw they had gone back to my marina. Just dropped it at their feet and said “you lost something”. It’s like the guys that walk into a men’s room, 10 vacant urinals on the wall and they decide to go in a stall and p!$$ all over the toilet seats…., but I digress.

What's the othet half?

It’s true that Canada has zero tariffs on US dairy products. What he left out is that zero tariffs is only up to X amount of imports and after that amount there is up to 250% tariffs on anything above the quota. But wait, there’s more. We have never been able to reach our quota of dairy imports, not even close due to subsidies Canada uses to keep their dairy products under market value plus various other hurdles that prevent US dairy imports.

It’s like Australia and US beef, there is no tariffs on US beef imported to Australia however there hasn’t been 1 pound of beef allowed to be imported into Australia since 2003 all the while Australian lamb enjoys no tariffs on imports into the US. Countries us other means besides tariffs to impede US imports.

Now, with that being said. Trump should have implemented the same restrictions/tariffs (except subsidies) countries use to restrict US imports instead of blanket tariffs.

"The art of deal." Drop horrible tariffs, create an anchoring bias, then scale them back to what's much more modest but still very bad tariffs, and your stupid constituents will pretend it's a win.
Dow down another 2%. The insiders will keep cashing in on the occasional artificial bump that's directly under the control of dear leader. They'll continue to extract value from a market in decline.

I knew the quota had never been met.

And the US dairy industry isn't subsidized at all.

Crying (not necessarily you) over another country's subsidies...we might as well sit out of the game, fold our arms, and whine "not fair." Trump and protectionists are never gonna stop with this **** if we're concerning ourselves with subsidies.
