If yall don't mind explaining what are the theoretical benefits of these tariffs? I dumb as dogsh*t on this and I don't know what to think. I see whats happening and its damn near impossible to find an explanation without political bias.
The intent is to use our leverage (access to sell to the US consumers) to create opportunities for America. Instead of giving the access away for free the threat of tariffs are intended to get something in return. Bring back manufacturing - especially for strategically critical goods (medical supplies, pharma, components necessary for defense). Bring in capital to construct those plants. Create well paying jobs. Open up foreign markets for US based businesses to sell to - eliminate or reduce THEIR tariffs, remove obstructive regulations. Don’t assist bad players like China that cheat. Several hundred billion dollars can be collected from the countries that won’t agree to the concept of fair trade.
We’ve not been treated fairly for at least 80 years. All of the administrations since (Truman, Eisenhower, JFK, LBJ, etc) have failed to do anything about the inequitable arrangements.
Tariffs are the method to get our trading partners (competition) to negotiate fair, free trade.
