President Donald Trump - J.D. Vance Administration

I posted this in the US vs Denmark thread but may as well put it here too if we're talking about Greenland.

Presence before power: why China became a near-Arctic state - this is by the Clingendael Institute, a Dutch think tank. It's a really long article but full of good stuff... goes into depth about China's policy and strategic vision for the Arctic.

"The Russians punch you in the face right away. The Chinese are more subtle." -US State Department staffer talking about Chinese development (building research centers in Norway, buying mines in Greenland)

All my life I've heard people talking about real estate by saying "no one is making any more land." China has a long term plan for Arctic resources, and for northern routes for maritime shipping. The US can either act as though the Arctic is someone else's playground, or it can bolster its own presence. For me this is one of those things where, okay, Trump and Vance are actively talking about it and it's fair to question the approach. But I sure hope all our administrations to date have at least had a plan they were putting real energy into, and I don't know if that's really the case.

This is what Trump has said in regards to taking control of Greenland, without much explanation as to why it is so important.

My opinion is its their choice but we should probably start to withdraw from there and the rest of Europe as it collapses.

European countries will be eyeballing it even more as they continue to collapse, as they are easy pickings. Europeans have mostly been pushed out of Africa for natural resources and they need that to fund the coming wars.

That is a pitifully weak and completely subservient answer. To answer that question effectively, Vance needs to explain why the American air base in Greenland, now known as Pituffik Space Base, is not enough. Why does the United States need full control of the country? Also, explain why Trump has said that the US "will go as far as we have to," to get control of Greenland. That sounds extreme. Although, Greenland's judiciary, monetary policy, defense and foreign affairs are under Danish control, Greenland has been an autonomous country since 1979. They have their own flag, and language. This shouldn't come down to appeasing the "desires" of one man, who hasn't yet explained his fixation with Greenland himself.

It’s the Green New Deal

Greenland has a choice, in the future they will have less choices and maybe no choice.

Are there taxes on profits from the investments?
Not for the wealthy.
There are loopholes that nobody ever complains about to protect themselves from that “redistribution” effort.
I say themselves because both parties give lip service to their respective bases but neither is interested in taxes on the wealthy….because they aren’t taxing themselves

You still haven't figured out that Trump in large part strategizes in private (you won't get those "why" details, no matter how entitled to them you believe you are) while negotiating in public (don't believe everything he threatens).

China is making a move for Greenland's resources, and the US needs them. It's sad that Greenland is a pawn between two super-powers, but it is what it is.

I get it ....

It's just about getting the penguins to the table, so he can work his "Art of the Deal" magic.

Perfect and completely rational response to a point made in regard to Greenland. Just proves how much you want to engage in good faith discussion and in no way just want to **** post.

Carry on.

I think people should be prepared for a bad outcome here i.e. reset (I said "somewhat likely" the first week or two after I was told of what is going to occur). What is the alternative? Not really a question because it really doesn't exist.

Wait till the medical industry prosecutions start.

I can’t believe that so many don’t seem to know how he operates.

No worries. All of us have an extra $3,500...every year.

I don't remember many Dems caring when ACA added about 6k to my yearly health care costs for the same level of care. I think its up 8k now, but I would have to check the math.

or about Bidenflation.

or gas prices.

or energy prices.

or egg prices pre 1/20/2025

I love how the hypocrisy flips. I seriously wonder if you partisan shills just get together and trade talking points on election night. Because now the Rs are saying tariffs are good for the economy, and yall think its bad. the Rs now think the president ignoring courts is good, while the Dems now think its bad.

we are only a couple months in, I can't wait to see what all gets flipped just for the sake of partisanship.

One thing funny to me is that the Orange and White game generally has a bigger population than Greenland. And 90% of them have more in common with the Inuit in Nunavut in Canada than they do with the 4,000 or so Danes who live there.

It would take a financial pittance to be the best thing that ever happened to the vast majority of people living there. It'll be interesting to see what happens if Greenland really pursues independence and starts giving come hither looks to the highest bidder.
