The Official “Regular Posters of the Basketball Forum” Thread

Truthfully for me any 20+ win season that ends in a sweet sixteen is a successful season...EE or more is always above my expectations, just saying this team is good enough to be in the Final Four when they play their best.

Mine was more aimed at the "FF or the season sucked!" posters...which aren't in here so I'm yelling into the void.

We lost to South Carolina with arguably the best scorer in Tennessee basketball history on our roster last season. Do we just forget that?
South Carolina absolutely had Florida beat earlier in conference play. Florida was very lucky to pull that one out. Granted it was in Columbia, but I absolutely believe they can beat us Saturday and will be energized to do so. It would make their season a little more palatable to get this win. I think we win, but I know how things just happen at times.

Also in both games a 6'8" Forward who was able to dribble drive had a big day offensively in both games. Carey for Vandy scored 14, Brakefield for Ole Miss scored 19
One thing I noticed in the A&M game was Gainey and others were digging at the ball in those situations ,when a big man was working to the bucket with a defender in front of him. Forced a lot of turnovers that way. I didn’t see much of that last night.

We are going to beat them so bad that Hootie cancels his tour so he can grieve.

I think the real disturbing thing to me was that we couldn't stop 1 guy, Bakersfield, is there his name? I haven't seen that really happen to Tennessee in quite some time. Everyone knew who was getting the ball, it was him and we just couldn't stop him in the second half and we couldn't get boards which was really weird.

I love Tennessee, Rick Barnes and this team, I think it was just one of those weird nights. We came off of an emotional win and had to travel to Ole Miss on Senior night, lots of stuff was going on.

Okpara is a beast and I don't see us getting worked like that again in the paint. I think this was a good wake up call for us. We were up by like 8 points, late in the second half and just got complacent?

Chalk it up, move on to South Carolina and let's win a natty!!!!!

Agree. Brakefield was just a bad matchup for Felix, and they saw it and just went back to it over and over. Rick didn't have an answer for it, as Mashack just got muscled trying to guard him. What I would tell Felix is just let him shoot 3's, don't go for the pump fake.

I don't disagree on this game being a wakeup call. I don't think we got complacent, but we did get sloppy and they outworked us on the boards. Better to see something that was hard to adjust to now instead of in the NCAA's, and the rebounding will be stressed from here out.

I was trying to tell him that from the upper deck last night. Don’t think he heard me

1 seed is dead. Florida has 2 wins better than any 1 win we have. They also have better overall record, along with their superior analytics/NET rankings.
Saw this in another thread today. Have you called Lunardi yet to tell him he’s full of it?

Lunardi has us at 5, ahead of Alabama which is nice, and says we’re right behind Florida. Suppose between Houston playing Baylor and Florida playing Ole Miss there’s still an outside shot of a 1.

Bury the 1 seed talk imo. We’re a 2 guaranteed barring a highly unexpected loss to SC and a first game loss in the SEC Tournament which would open the door to a 3 seed.
This was posted in another thread today, if you haven’t yet jumped off the bandwagon to root for another team:

How?

Duquesne- 20-21
SDSU- 21-22
Juco- 22-23
Auburn- 23-24
Auburn- 24-25

He played in games in every season. I need an explanation for this.

Pretty sure it has something to do to do with him failing out of SDSU and not finishing his year there. That’s what I read online.

The Auburn articles reference the Pavia decision, which I guess I didn't realize it applied to basketball. That makes the Osuna decision and argument by the NCAA even worse.

But, even if he gets a Juco year back, Baker-Mazara has played for four seasons at a D1 school with no redshirts. What am I missing? This is crazy.

Maybe they deducted all the games he's been thrown out of from his eligibility

The 2020-21 season is a covid year and doesn't count. JUCO will no longer count after the Vandy QB decision.

October 14 – The NCAA announced that all student-athletes in winter sports during the 2020–21 school year, including men's and women's basketball, would receive an extra year of athletic eligibility, whether or not they or their teams play during that school year.

2020-21 at Duquesne doesn’t count against eligibility because it was shortened by COVID and played in mostly empty gyms. Apparently the JUCO year in 2022-23 didn’t count either.

It's been so long now that I thought it was just the 2019-2020 year. I'm still not sure that it's 100% guaranteed and why the Juco waiver doesn't apply to baseball, too.

Huh? He played in all 31 games for SDSU?

I honestly hadn’t looked into it because it’s been a busy work day and I just saw a bunch of Auburn fans saying something about him failing out of SDSU, so I assumed they knew about their own player but I guess not. Yeah, if he played in all 31 games it would count as a year of eligibility.

If the NCAA bases denying Osuna on that JC thing, we should sue the Hades out of them. If Pavia is allowed so should Osuna if that’s solely why he is being denied.
