Yeah; but we built up several leads and each time went into offensive droughts and our rebounding was balls. We just didn’t get it done.

Sure, but scoring isn’t always linear.

We also had lots of scoring barrages in the game.

We scored more than enough points to win this game.

I mean, looking at the data and having watched the game, we probably win that game on the road like 66% of the time.

This was the 33%

In my opinion, if you want to point to the one thing that caused us to lose outside Brakefield going unconscious, it was transition defense. We gave up at least 6 easy points.

We lost to South Carolina with arguably the best scorer in Tennessee basketball history on our roster last season. Do we just forget that?
Offense is better this season and I don’t see those guys taking their final game here lightly. I could be wrong to feel this way, but I’m not worried about Saturday at all.

@TheMookieMonster is right it's very possible we could lose to USCjr on senior day. The womens team just did the same thing with Georgia, It's not crazy to think the same thing happens to the mens team
It’s possible, not sure Id say very possible. Remotely possible. Like it’s possible I’ll send a text or write a post without a typo. It’s always technically possible, but the odds are long.

I don't think we lose it, but I also did not think the womens team would lose that game and they shocked me.

I've said it multiple times, but he doesn't work nearly hard enough to get open. If they don't run a play designed to get him open, it ain't happening in the 2nd half it seems like.
He is def too casual at times on the court and he's stopped using the shot fake that he used at times in that 2 or 3 game stretch a couple wks ago when he also was playing well...maddening to me because his defenders jump out of their shoes because of his quick release.

Watched the game late on replay...atrocious that we gave up that many points esp since it wasn't due to them being unconscious from 3. Should have sat Okpara in 2H - he was getting cooked. 2H reb was terrible. Oh well...1 seed would have been nice but tough road game after emotional game on Sat as has been pointed out so not surprising but def disappointing.

Yep. It's Barnes/UT and it's March. On top of that, we don't usually come out guns-a-blazin' on senior days/nights. We should win, but.....

Transition D and rebounding - both are effort parts of the sport which is what’s most disappointing as this team typically gives great effort.

I agree with this - I won’t argue with anyone saying we could’ve rebounding better in the 2H, because we absolutely should have. But at the end of the day, shots were falling for ole Miss that won’t fall for them the rest of the season. Sometimes there’s just some senior night magic.
Yep. It would be hard to argue with our -11 performance in rebounding in the second half. Between that and Brakefield going unconscious, that was all Ole Miss needed.

Come on Mook, you're better than this...

Last year's team isn't this year's team, not for us or South Carolina. Because that squad last year was 26-8 for them and finished tied for a 2 seed in the SEC at 13-5.

Not saying a win is guaranteed, but comparing their best team in school history (last year) to one of their worst teams (this year) isn't exactly apples to apples.

Barnes also seems to be particularly upset based on his postgame comments. Not happy with the effort at all. He said Ole Miss wanted it more than our guys did.
I agree with him on the effort comment. Again, -11 difference on the boards in the second half is all you need to know.

Also, ZZ going 1 of 6 from deep was a dagger...literally if he hits just one of those 5 he missed we win. Also Gainey went 4 of 9 but he had at least 2 that should have dropped.

But ultimately allowing Ole Miss to go over 30% offensive rebounding with most of that coming in the 2nd half was the ball game. The last points they scored came off an offensive rebound and put back.

This team when on can hold Florida to 44 points...or go into Auburn and hold them to 53

But this same team gave Vandy 76 twice, and let Missouri hang 81 in TBA and also Kentucky 78 with 2 starters missing for them.

Just a different type of team than we normally see. I don't think most of us would expect a Rick Barnes squad to lose any game where they score 73 or more, but half our losses have come scoring that much.

The loss reminds me a lot of the Vanderbilt one, we were very good offensively, actually near our best from an efficiency standpoint. It was our defense (rebounding) that lost us that game, not even remotely close to anything from an offensive standpoint, which is a different way for us to lose. On the season we were 24-1 when shooting 25%+ from 3, last night and against Vandy we manage to shoot 39%+ from deep and lose. We were also 17-0 when Gainey scores 9+ points, he had 17, like everything about that game from an offensive standpoint suggests we win that game, and probably fairly easily.

It sucks because our 1 seed chances took a massive shot, and obviously that’s what we all wanted and were hoping for and following, but big picture, that was another nice offensive showing which is what we’ve all been calling for. Have to have some faith that they figure out some defensive and rebounding issues and come out more focused going forward, again it sucks because of what you were playing for, but outside of that it’s hard to be too down imo.
