I'd call them an elite defensive team and great offensive team. Elite overall. I think maybe you cut "elite" off at Top 15 or 20.
It’s a weird year for KenPom offensive ratings. We’re currently 118.3, which in the past several years would put us somewhere between 8-20, and only 4-5 points away from #1.

This year, we’re almost 13 points away from #1, which us the same gap between us and the 216th ranked offense.

So, not elite relative to the top offenses, this year.

I blame Lebron for this, non of the elite high fliers want to participate anymore. Imagine Ja & Zion in this thing.
If you've followed the NBA dunk contest through its history, it has never been a big thing since not long after it was born into existence.

It literally began in 84...then you had Dominique Wilkins in 85. MJ up to 88 and that was the end of the peak. Basically 4 years then 40 years of mostly misses and a few hits.

2000 - Vince Carter (even at this point we had a decade of boredom and Brent fing Barry winning it)

2008-2011 (2nd wave peak) - Dwight, Nate, Blake

2023-2025 - Mac

Everything in between has basically been very forgettable

I hope Hofstra likes the big check they got for traveling to Tennessee and taking that @$$ whipping over the weekend...

This team definitely gives off Oregon State vibes.
lol no. That team was not good at all and benefited from a really easy schedule.

21-22 is a better comparison. Had games where we could beat anyone but also had games we shot 20 % and scored 50 points. Could go on a crazy run or lose by 10 to an average team

The Spud Webb win in 1986 was and still is a must watch. Defeated Dominique Wilkins in Final...

I mean they're 30th in Kenpom for offensive rating right now... depending on your cut off for elite I guess.

But I think top 30 for over 360 teams is pretty damn good.

They can and have played elite offense before, so we know it is in there at least.
The problem is it’s inconsistent. We can have games where we shoot awful and 30% from the field… or we can have games that look like the 2nd half of Vandy. Play like we did the 2nd half yesterday and we have a top 3 offense and defense

Very rarely does the team that flashes occasionally survive the tournament. The elite 8 is usually teams that looked solid consistently all year or at least got their act together late in the season and were consistent down the stretch. This team can beat literally anyone, but I don't think we can be consistent enough 6 games in a row (or even 4) to survive March Madness this year.

We could get our act together and start being consistent, but if the tournament were this week, I'd say we get bounced the 2nd weekend.

ok, saying what ur saying.

weve been a top 10 team for years.

is 29th acceptable? 41st?
That’s just not how you totally rank classes these days. Barnes has adjusted to bring in more transfers because they’ve been developed and bring experience for the postseason. In both the 2020 and 2021 classes, he had top 5 classes. Springer, Johnson, Chandler, Huntley-Hatfield, Aidoo, etc. But he’s purposely choosing not to only go that route anymore.

There’s pretty good data that experience matters in March. At his age, Barnes isn’t interested in rebuilding and developing year.

I'll take your word for it. He doesn't look that tall to me but I haven't been right next to him though.

Yeah, I mean watching him stand up for pictures with kids, parents all saying "I'm 5'9"!" or "I'm 5'6"" etc. over and over. He was extremely gracious though.

But all of his teammates are 6'4" or taller, so keep that in mind in the huddles.

Zion would dominate that thing

😂 no he wouldnt... he's a powerful in game dunker with only a windmill & or 360 in his bag. He couldn't jump over Kevin Hart much less a car or do anything creative for the contest at his weight now. High school/Duke Zion I'd give you that but now. Not a chance.
