Recruiting Football Talk VIII

I wonder how many football jeniuses still want Martinez fired? We have two lockdown corners and arguably one of the beat secondaries in the country, made seventeen year old all-world receiver look like … well a seventeen year old.

Yep...and the best part

Gibson = So.
Turrentine = RS Jr.
McCoy = So.
Jourdan Thomas = Jr. (injured so should be a RS Jr. next season)
Harrison = RS So.
McMurray = RS Jr.
Jakobe Thomas = RS Jr.
Slaughter = So.
Charles = RS Jr.
Farooq = Fr.
Boo = Fr.
Matthews = RS Fr.
Goree Jr. = Fr.
Beasley = Fr.
Brooks = RS Sr.

I'm sure we'll have some attrition in the portal...but a very real chance to return all the starters except Brooks.

I mentioned this in the game thread when it happened and got flamed for it lol - still think he doesn’t fumble if the TE runs hard and sets the block.
Very first play he breaks down is Simpson's fumble. I didn't realize how half-assed the TE did on that play. Someone mentioned it above and I had to check it out again. He's right, Sampson may still be running with a hustle play from the TE there.

I'm beyond hungover and tickled to death but

Who allowed our fans to take the field and tear the goalposts down?

Absolutely embarrassing. Alabama does not deserve that level of respect anymore.
SIAP, apparently it was the recruits and I could care less. My problem is with the idiots that destroyed the turf.

Two things I'm interested to see if happens this week. Does Texas get punished for throwing things on the field? We all know we did for that OM game. And does Kirby get punished for criticizing the officiating? Sure, the refs sucked. Seems to be a common theme these days. But coaches are not supposed to criticize officiating. Pretty sure it's supposed to at least result in a fine. So does Kirby get punished or is he above the rules?
No and No.

A side note:

Jerry Palm is such a hack. He has refused to give the Vols any credit whatsoever for any win this year and still has them missing the CFP after the win last night. I am not going to link to his article because that would give him credit and more clicks. Just sick of his BS when we are a legitimately good team that deserves more credit than that. That is all.
Yea I seen that says bama dropped one spot to 8 after the loss and we needed a lot of help ..BS

he’s done a good job and they’ve really upped the talent level with these corners. Gibson still doesn’t always turn around but he’s flying around and still such a young player. Doing a great job regardless. Jumps off the screen how much faster they play.
Justin Wilcox answered the “turning head” technique on Gameday a few weeks ago. They were breaking down a Cal INT, and Wilcox said he turned his head because he was “in phase.” If the DB isn’t in phase yet then he doesn’t turn his head. Pretty sure this is what Martinez has taught for years. When our DB’s are beat, they won’t turn their head. The goal line may be a bit different situation, but it substantiated for me that our DB’s aren’t taught anything different. Better talent helps this.

I’ve always been a Martinez fan

Our best DBs of the last ~15 years, post Berry, all came up under his tutelage

Boo loves to "talk'

I love that about him. Has the talent to backup the talk too. He’s gotta contain it a bit of course. That sequence with number 1 for Bama could easily have been off setting penalties. Nonetheless, I love a guy with that kind of dawg in him who walks the walk AND talks the talk.

I’m guilty of this, but in the emotional aftermath of a game, whether it be a loss or a win in which a particular position group looked bad, fans have a tendency to spew out bad takes. Part of being a fan. At the end of the day, Willie Mo has done fine here. Maybe not an elite coach but fine. Fact is that he didn’t have a lot to work with for the first few years of the Heupel era. Not sure that was understood by most fans. Gibson and McCoy both have exceptional ability unlike the guys who transferred out who were mostly okay but nothing special. Talent makes coaching so much easier.
