Recruiting Football Talk VIII

If I’m thinking about it right, given we have one loss I think the #5 spot is the best outside of a first round bye. We would play the lowest ranked team in the first round and get them for a home game in Neyland.

Lots of football to be played and not getting ahead but it’s fun to think about a playoff game at home.

5 seemed to be the best spot, maybe even better than bye spots.

That dime that Nico threw to Thornton on the run just looks better and better each time you watch it. On the run, launches off one foot and drops it right into the perfect spot after 35 air yards. You just can’t teach that. Just give Heupel time to teach him what can be taught.

It seems like we need more plays designed to let him rollout. Credit goes to a caller earlier this week on Basilio that pointed this out. He said just let the guy rollout because he seems more comfortable and accurate. Kinda like when Kiffin unlocked Crompton against UGA.

Then play the big 12 champ at neutral site.

man it really is good to see JG. he went through hell and kept his head up. Super good dude too. When former players, maligned or otherwise, are coming back like this to support? Man what a good community we got brewing in Knoxville. Love our coach love our program
I like JG, I wanted him to be so good here. I bet he would've been if he played under Heupel.

We beat Okie, UF and Bama in the same year. We are on pace to make the playoff. We get a week to rest up, prepare and close out the season on a hot streak. We also know we can match up with UGA since we just beat the one team who beat them.

And we have yet to play a complete game against an SEC opponent.

Eye on the prize.
Yup. Everything is still out in front. And we're gonna be playing in nationality relavent games in November.

I probably bashed JG a few times but in my mind he is one of the toughest sob's I have watched at any level. That kid took a beating and kept coming back. Got mad respect for him. Glad he is welcomed back here with open arms.

Rolled him a good amount FL game and this game

Fans are usually too nearsighted and don't see anything that's not right in front of them. Banks has always been a good play caller, but the execution wasn't there early in his career (kind of what we've been seeing on the offensive side of the ball this year). Now we've got the development and the players at every level of the defense.

Will Brooks isn't your standard walk-on white dude defensive back. He was an All-American lacrosse player. Traveled the country competing at the highest level of lacrosse when other guys were camping and getting evaluated by recruiting services. Then in the fall he was intercepting future D1 QBs, guarding future D1 WRs, and making open field tackles on future D1 RBs. Prior to last night he was our 4th highest PFF graded defender. All he's done is prove himself as a starting SEC safety.
I laughed all night at Jakobe's proud outburst about Brooks' game-sealing INT. 😂

And there was a reason we didn’t play the way Banks has always wanted to play. It aligns with the staff letting pretty much the entire secondary walk in the offseason.
