Dietary and serum cholesterol are entirely different things.

The dirty little secret of cholesterol is that while lowering it does correlate to reductions in mortality due to heart issues, that's only true to a point, and lowering it beyond that point correlates to increased mortality due to a whole host of other issues...chief among them brain issues. Cholesterol is a material the body uses to repair and protect from certain types of damage. Cholesterol itself isn't a problem, but it is highly correlated to systemic inflammation, which is a problem. But western medicine in general, and Big Pharma in specific, do love a number they can sell you a medicine to control.
*let me prescribe you a drug that in turn makes you need another drug which makes you need another drug* instead of eating right and exercising

Sorry to have gotten on this cholesterol/Alzeimer’s tangent. Just trying to pass on some things I’ve learned and have experienced myself.

I have worked in the healthcare industry for 35 years. There are many, many wonderful things about modern healthcare and there are many, many bad things concerning modern healthcare.

The beginning of June, I started hitting the gym and eating completely different. Started taking several natural supplements. Started grocery shopping on the outside areas of the store. I’m 54 and have lost 8% body fat and am gaining crazy strength and haven’t felt this good mentally in years.

I went off my statin and will soon be coming off my blood pressure medication. I will soon be coming off of my head meds. Bottom line, some specific lifestyle changes can make all the difference.

Thank you for sharing. This are good info for people who don’t realize some of these things. Knowledge is power. Congratulations on getting off your meds!

Meanwhile, over in Gamecock world, where meth is still clearly an issue:

The season is upon us! I know college basketball is my expertise but Im so excited about this football season!!! I initially said 9 wins. Scrap that! Barring any MAJOR injuries, this will be a 10 win season or BETTER!! I personally think we're good enough to be in the playoffs this season. Let me explain....

My main reasons for being so optimistic is because our 3 future NFL running backs, our elite QB LaNorris Sellers, and our top tier coach Shane Beamer.... Gamecock Nation, we might have the best running back core in the country! If not the best, one of the best. This is why I'm most excited. Me personally, I think Oscar is the best back out of the 3 (Sanders, Adaway, and Howell). It doesn't matter, they're all studs.

Sellers will be special this season. Enough said. And the college football world will finally give Beamer the respect he deserves! What an amazing offseason he had. It's time for him to enjoy the fruits of his labor! Also guys, don't underestimate the impact Coach Elliott will have on this team. We have 2 head coaches for the price of 1!!

This season is going to be epic!!! Let's goooo!!!

I’m saying that today’s recommended levels are too low. Yes, there are certainly cholesterol levels that are too high. MOST high cholesterol levels/triglyceride levels are due to diet and lack of exercise. That’s what’s I’m saying.

The big question is WHY are AMERICANS cholesterol levels so high compared to the rest of the world?
Because we're the wealthiest country who has access to and means to afford more red meat than anyone else and/therefore our culture has red meat at its core more than anyone else and we're more sedentary than everyone else.

I don't know a whole lot of Americans who are struggling to keep their cholesterol above a healthy number. This conversation would be much more appropriate in more veggie forward cultures.

Dietary and serum cholesterol are not entirely unrelated like you imply. Serum cholesterol goes up with fat (and carbs to a lesser extent), and high cholesterol diets are usually high in saturated fat as well. Yes you can separate them in theory, but in practice the correlation is very high. If you eat a low cholesterol diet you're probably eating a low fat diet and are lowering your serum cholesterol.
