Recruiting Football Talk VIII

This. When the US started pushing vegetable oil spreads, seed oils, etc all in the name of lowering cholesterol, we started seeing an increase in Alzheimer’s also. The brain needs cholesterol to function properly. Our hormonal glands need cholesterol to function properly. How often do you hear about relatively young men having to start on testosterone nowadays because their levels are sh1t? Why did the ADA change that cholesterol levels were completely fine at 300 as the industry/government began pushing the vegetable/seed oils? So they could then prescribe us statins. If you’re on a statin, get off them asap.

The FDA, USDA, etc were bought out by big pharma.
Combine that with people being overweight and sedentary. And sitting for 10+ hours a day and that's only counting the daily commute + time in the office. Then people go home and immediately sit on the couch until they go to bed because they're too exhausted to do anything else. The modern lifestyle is quite literally toxic to our health.

I choose not to do meth but whatever you choose to do is up to you…. I was talking more in general…

My kids youth church group for example..

1.a person fell out of a raft while white rafting… no more white water rafting.
2. a person broke an ankle skating….. no more roller akating

we can’t ride in the back of truck around cades cove.

we have four foot high plastic scoots instead of slides at the park.

My mom use to dress up the kids like they were ready to disarm a bomb while riding their bike with training wheels on her drive way.

The list goes on and on.

I can second that. I developed myopathy on while on statins. It's been almost two years and I am still not fully recovered. CK levels are still over 1000 and should be around 100-200.

Gotta stay on mah statins, what with 'genetically' high cholesterol levels.

LOL you're saying Americans don't get ENOUGH cholesterol?!

Some notes –

Big Orange Hotline –

Pat Ryan and Jeff Francis (who apparently had access to the camp scrimmages) said of the guys we lost in the secondary to the transfer portal – we didn’t want any of those guys back.

Both former Vol QBs also raved about our expected use of the TEs this year and especially Ethan Davis.

Jim Reynolds, in his 45th year as the voice of the Mocs, joined the show. He said the Mocs don’t have any depth and may only hang for the first quarter but those kids will play their hearts out and with a chip on their shoulder because many of them think they should be playing for the Big Orange.

There is a lot of concern about the Mocs DL and its lack of depth. Probably should take the over on UT’s rushing yards. jmo.

Turrentine on the show said just the difference in length and speed were some of the most obvious things that stood out to him with the guys in the secondary this year vs last year.

Rusty Wright –

On Sports talk here in Chattanooga Monday the Mocs head coach said he was more concerned about the talent difference than his depth issues.

He also said that what Jim Mora did to piss us off last year he doesn’t want to do that. lol.

Rusty was asked about Special Teams and the report from Mike Ekeler that in the last 3 years we’ve had 896 punt return yards and only given up 23. Rusty said his punter would be taking a snap for the first time in college against us. He said his biggest worry right now was the guy catching the snap.

He talked about how good we are on ST from the film he’s watched and our punter being ambidextrous or whatever you call it. At that point the show devolved into rolling laughter. Once they composed themselves he went on to say the key to the success of our special teams beyond talent was scheme, which he said we are really good at.

He talked about in his 3rd year they almost beat a 10 win Kentucky team (2021) but in his first year (2019) when they came to Knoxville he had taken his players into Neyland Friday night and the kids were saying this is no big deal. The next day the score was 38-0 against them before they could catch their breath.

He said the one thing on punting you cannot do is kick a line drive to Squirrel (added evidence to my theory that everybody knows who Squirrel is. jmo.)

Bru’s Views –

Bru does a weekly radio show (WGOW FM) here in Chattanooga every Monday (4:45 PM) and he’s really high on our offensive potential for this year, every position group. He said Nico is ready and he also singled out Donte Thornton as being ready to perform at a high level this year.

Bru talked about running through the T and how that will especially affect the first year guys their first time. He said (Monday) that at this point the thing all the players are dealing with is first game of the season anticipation but once the game gets going that recedes pretty fast and you just play.

A couple weeks ago he was asked about growing up as a kid playing football in Cali and if he dreamed about one day playing at the college level. First he said growing up he never dreamed one day he’d have his own radio show then he talked about the ending of the ’22 TSIO. At the time he and Chase McGrath were roommates. They had also been high school teammates. It was really late that night when they finally got home. He said they just looked at each other and said, “nice”.
Nice

Dietary and serum cholesterol are entirely different things.

The dirty little secret of cholesterol is that while lowering it does correlate to reductions in mortality due to heart issues, that's only true to a point, and lowering it beyond that point correlates to increased mortality due to a whole host of other issues...chief among them brain issues. Cholesterol is a material the body uses to repair and protect from certain types of damage. Cholesterol itself isn't a problem, but it is highly correlated to systemic inflammation, which is a problem. But western medicine in general, and Big Pharma in specific, do love a number they can sell you a medicine to control.

Our government allows over 10K food additives. Europe allows just over 300. Why is that? Much of the food sold in the US is not allowed in Europe.

Yeah that is crazy. I’m pretty “fit”. I run 10-12 miles a week on off season from my half marathons and lift 5 days a week. At 33 I decided to get my T levels ran and they came back at 200 ng/dl when average for male is 400-900.

35 and my levels were in the 200’s as well. On TRT for the rest of my life now

I’m saying that today’s recommended levels are too low. Yes, there are certainly cholesterol levels that are too high. MOST high cholesterol levels/triglyceride levels are due to diet and lack of exercise. That’s what’s I’m saying.

The big question is WHY are AMERICANS cholesterol levels so high compared to the rest of the world?

EDIT: I shouldn’t have made an absolute statement about recommended levels being too low. I should have prefaced by saying ‘IMO’. I’m also not a physician. I do a lot of research and made decisions for my health based on what I felt best for me.

Oh…GBO!

Rusty seems like a pretty likeable fella.

Thanks for the notes, as always, Chatt.
