War in Ukraine

Because we have an obligation to do so under the Budapest Memorandum, it's the right thing to do morally, and it's the right thing to do from a US geopolitical interests perspective.

It's also a pittance in terms of funding in the grand scheme of dollars that the US has doled out to foreign countries, and the return is tangible and far greater.
Yeah, the "Budapesht (Gotta say it like that) Memorandum" can have it's own thread. I don't see it that way at all. European countries don't give a f about it. And they're much closer. Morally? Meh, Geopolitical interest? You mean corrupt politics interest.

As far as your last bit, we're over 30 trillion in debt. We're never paying that off and it'll only get worse. Every penny pushes us closer to the inevitable collapse. That collapse will not be enjoyable for anyone.

So tell me, which federal programs have been cut, or been seen a reduction in funding, due to us sending aid, mostly in the form of military hardware, to Ukraine.

Be specific.
None have been cut, and that’s another part of the problem. Our infrastructure is failing and desperately needs to be replaced. Our veterans need better health care. There’s so much that’s needed in this country that’s not getting the financial help it needs. How much has Europe given financially to the Ukraine?

So you don't believe a country should declare martial law, when they are dealing with an invasion by a foreign power?

This is really the 'logic' that your attempting to employ?

Listen, I get it, you're a coward who'd surrender at the first chance were your country invaded.

The Ukrainians however, are not cowards like yourself, and only need the weapons to defend themselves.

We owe at least as much, considering that we forced them to give up their nuclear arsenal, in exchange for a pledge to safeguard their sovereignty.

You mean like the U.S. is being invaded?

Join up, let is know how the Ukraine is.

That's like saying "I didn't cut out the 25 double cheeseburgers in my diet, so adding another 10 is okay."

WE DON'T HAVE THE ****ING MONEY TO PAY FOR THIS WAR.

Lol no it's not.

Tell me specifically, the federal programs that are negatively impacted by sending military aid to Ukraine.

This shouldn't be that hard for you to articulate.

So why aren't Republicans actually writing this legislation, and putting it up for a vote?

Europe is paying more than the US at the moment; far more in terms of actual monetary aid.

None.

Now, articulate how we pay for this?

The same way we pay for everything. We'll bet against our future economic growth the way we have for the last 40+ years, and loan ourselves the money.

We did before Russia invaded Ukraine, and well do it afterwards, and no politician of either party will choose to do otherwise.

And you'll go back to not complaining about it once your party or choice is back in power.

Eventually it all adds up, interest on the outstanding is going up at very fast rate, and its only been going up 2 years.... meaning the old debt is priced in at close to zero rates. As the old debt gets flipped, it gets flipped at a higher rate... it doesn't happen overnight.

Jesus you are stupid.

Now, tell us when your plan on joining up because they would rather the stupid ones like yourself. (internet tough guy)

Lol, we spend 800+ billion a year on defense alone, sending military aid to Ukraine is not going to collapse our economy no matter how much you want it to.

I swear, some of you never took a macroeconomics class, and it's woefully apparent.

What's a 100 billion here, a 100 billion there?

That's your position?

I never said that did I, you are setting up stupid strawman. Its a waste of money just like all the other military engagement the U.S. has been involved with. Meaning eventually it does matter.

Jesus you are stupid.

Now when are you going to join up?

Where was the balanced budget legislation when Republicans had control of the both houses of Congress and the presidency in 2017?

The way that the US funds the budget, will not change because aid is given, or not, to Ukraine.

It's disingenuous and (willfully) ignorant of you to pretend otherwise.

You're getting all over the place now and certainly going for discussions for other threads.

Point remains - We don't have money for Ukraine. You're selling yourself and your future out now.

The Budapest Memorandum uses the word "assurances" versus the stronger word "guarantees". You understand the difference correct?

Point remains, that the US has a budget deficit every year, regardless of foreign aid to Ukraine.

Are you really saying that it's a good thing that the President can suspend elections whenever he wants? And that is freedom? I'm throwing you a bone here.....

Edit- To answer your question directly, it's ****ing ridiculous to have that election suspension in place. That's the most stupid thing I've seen regarding "Freedom". Ukraine is one of the most corrupt governments on earth.

Curious. Are you a Republican? The creator of your party, Lincoln, suspended Habeas Corpus.

Is that freedom?

Which is worse... not holding elections or throwing you in jail without trial?
