That’s become clear over the last season. I think we will see more lateral transfers this year and fewer vertical transfers.

Kellie is one who really tried it out with the mid-major stars and it just doesn’t translate at the highest level. For some reason she was always getting forwards from mid-majors though. Franklin, Keyen, Alexus Dye…Dye was the best of the 3 but she was out of her depth and you could tell.

(The name Green today made me start thinking. Whatever happened the Cheridene? She seemed like she had more to offer than we ever saw)

We have 5 scholarships open… I will be of that mind after we get 5 more players and then are entertaining more… until then we wait

I would be shocked if we got a top 10 rated transfer group this year. Perhaps my biggest disappointment with the news of our coaching hire is that no one knows anything about her until it was publicized here due to the hire. Why in the world would transfer players who are good enough to play at good Power 5 teams drop their hopes to play for their dream coach and instead within a few week period commit to a coach who they likely never have heard of. She totally could end up being a great hire in the long run, but in the short run we are in a terrible disadvantage compared to what it would have been if we had hired a top tier proven coach. It now feels like we are really going to have to rebuild the program from the ground up, which at best means that we might be good again by her 3rd year. I am along for the ride and will consider next year a success just to get into the NCAA tourney. Hard to get excited about this scenario.

If we don’t get top players in this portal and the elite players in the 2025 class, I just don’t think we will be able to build a winning roster until we get the next coach, and it depends on how long this one lasts.

Her husband is a men's assistant basketball coach. But that doesn't mean he won't switch and become her assistant. Female coaches and their husbands do that all the time now. Look at Eve Rackham-Watt and her husband. Hopefully UT will pull some corporate strings and find him another job in the Knoxville area.

That's why she needs to keep Sam and Joy. I'm going to bet she has no P5 coaching relationships and good assistant coaches are hard to find. Plus Sam has the recruiting connections and Joy is tied into the team.

Not true. And if we’re really talking, as someone that follows sports a lot I do not know about 90% of the head coaches in most sports. Nobody was talking about a lot of coaches in WBB before this season. The players build relationships by the minute. By the day. They do not have to know a coach for 4 years to commit. This is the same for a good number of parents. The first time many parents see in-person and get to know these coaches is when they start recruiting their child. A few coaches like Dawn Staley, Geno, and Kim Mulkey have built their reputation. Coach Caldwell once she walks in the gym in Tennessee apparel is building her profile. That is all that matters. Nothing else is significant.
