2024 Transfer Portal

I apologize. We’ve been working each other up in my household because *some people* insist that I have to give everyone a chance even tho no reliable sources have suggested I have to do so.

There are still some good uncommitted players in the portal, so hope springs eternal!

Really hasn’t been much movement in the portal at all. At least none that wasn’t expected like the VaTech transfers.

LSU made their big announcement but that is a project and a half. Losing more than they gain in the portal so far.

I think we probably would have signed 2 portal players already if we had not made a coaching change. Suspect there are several decent players waiting to see who we hire.

Whether it’s for good press or bad, Tennessee still gets talked about. We are the Dolly Parton of women’s basketball programs. Classy and classic, if not a little old, but all be danged if people aren’t still talking about us.

Hopefully 0. This job is totally different. She cannot bring kids from Marshall and expect to compete in the SEC.

I do not want ANYTHING to do with the Hayes sisters and their parents at Tennessee again. That was enough drama the first time.

She cannot bring in a bunch of 5’7” guards and compete in the SEC. We will look exactly like Arkansas. It’s not pretty.

The good news is we'll get that information in the next four weeks. So it is time to either succeed of totally fail starting on Tuesday.

It’s not going to be some immediate upgrade. Point blank. Anyone hoping that it will be only setting themselves up for disappointment. Just hope in 3 or 4 years we’ll see progress at this point.

This is really depressing. She may turn out to be okay, but I don’t see anyway we will be competing with SC, LSU or TX anytime soon with recruiting. There just isn’t enough experience at the D1 level for this coach to have proven she can make it in the big leagues. Sorry!

Nope, if she’s gonna run her system she needs to get back on the phone with Maddie Scherr and Whitehorn. Because we are going to need some more guards who can defend.

I just don’t even know, curious to see how the roster evolves over the next month.

All I know is that if the Lady Vol players are going to return and play for Coach Kim they better break out their running shoes.

Some of them aren’t. So I’m keeping my trap shut.

That was an issue with Kellie players though. They were either good athletes or good basketball players. Rarely both. Holly had a very similar problem.

Just hope Coach can recruit athletic kids who are ballers and want to win.

She’s one Kim should go and get. Quick lots of eligibility, lots of potential.

I’m dead nervous about recruiting at the moment. Next big question is who are our assistants?

Williams and McCorvey are honestly good assistant coaches but I’d almost guarantee they are replaced. I think she’s going to have to have a ready made assistant who is already an incredible recruiter. And then likely another assistant with more experience who can give some perspective when she runs into trouble.

Because there is sure to be some. She’s 1 season removed from DII ball, no questions she can coach, but has never done it at this level, against this kind of competition or with these kinds of players.

As of right now I do think it’s beneficial to try and retain Sam. She’s already behind in the portal window and has no real connections or in-roads to any of these D1 players. I know she’ll try to bring a player or two but the reality is the speed and physicality of SEC will be a whole other ball game. Same with her selection of assistants .
