Robert Marve

From the article Sab posted:

We should be a easy choice if satisfaction with our QB situation is a primary concern.

A lot of coaches recognize that Marve has a lot of upside potential.

On Tripper's comment, I'm not sure how much Marve had to do with our not signing a 2009 QB, but it could have been a factor. I thought it was that they saw potential in Crompton, Stephens, or BJ. We can rule out BJ now, of course, and with all this talk about Newton and Marve, those are not strong signals of confidence is Stephens beyond 2009. But NS does have 2009 to make his case.

My hope is that we get one year of JC playing at his recruited potential. And, as far as his intelligence is concerned, this is his third playbook, so maybe this one will fit better. If it does, we could break .500 this year.

Regardless of the coaches opinion of Stephens, we had to fill the void left by BJ. You don't want to have a Senior and a handfull of Freshman for your roster. This provides legitimate competition to Stephens and allows a Freshman, assuming he doesn't win the job, a chance to aclimate to the speed and toughness of SEC football.

New rivals article where they talked to Marve this afternoon. Said he is still deciding and will choose within the next week or two. Said the SEC was closer to home but his family was also originally from Michigan, so we would have family close if he went to Purdue.

Several credible sources on the Rivals board have plainly said that Marve will be a Vol.

I haven't read through the thread but I was surprised to hear on CFB Live just now that he hasn't been able to get to know the UT staff because of the restrictions. On the other hand he's been able to get to know the Perdue staff. That says a ton that he's even considering UT when you throw in the free ride at Perdue.

Marve must really be interested in Tennessee to even consider turning down a scholly for a sit out year that costs you money for a semester!:good!:

His dad played for Monte and Coach O recruited him hard when he was in high school.

Apparently Marve's parents are fairly loaded, so money's not a real big issue. I think Marve wants to stay in the southeast and knows that UT has a much better chance at competing for a conference championship in 2010 and 2011 compared to Purdue. Plus our depth chart is more attractive to someone who wants to start as soon as they get here.

With a solid QB, Tennessee becomes a 2011 time bomb.

tn coaches cant talk to marve or his family but there are ways to get word out that you are interested through others such as his former high school coach but yes still hard to get that personal feel for the staff. Coach O didn't recruit Marve hard. coach Werner wanted to after a camp but Coach O was stuck on garcia for some reason. Then it was too late once they tried to get back in late with marve. snead then fell in his lap.

No doubt. Of course we will need solid 2010 OL and LB recruiting hauls as well, but I'm not worried about that with this staff.

For the record, I called us winning the 2011 SEC championship right after Monte and Orge were on board :)

If Tennessee gets Marve and Newton both, we could be in the BIG TIME HUNT in '10. I believe as soon as one of these QB's committ (JUCO or HS), the committs from other players will really pick up! Great players want to play with other great players so they can have a real shot @ success!

I think the questionable O line situation will hold us back in 2010, even if we had solid QB play right away.

Here's a relevant but fairly empty article from Indiana: Ex_Miami QB weighs transferring to Boilers | The Journal Gazette, Fort Wayne, Ind.

They imply it as being 50/50 between Purdue and Tennessee. I personally think he has to be a Tennessee lean. If having a scholarship right away or not was a big factor, he would have already made his choice. If you take that out, Tennessee looks like the stronger candidate.

ESPN College Football Live just said that it was a "coin flip" between Purdue and Tennessee. Marve is suppose to announce Tuesday or Wednesday of this week.:boxing2:

I would not be opposed at all to pulling in both of those guys. However there is a zero percent chance two JUCO players with that type of potential go to the same school. The newton rumors may have just been leaks to get one or more of our targets to make a move. It seems a lot more qb noise has come out since then with kids making sure we know they are still very interested in us.

Purdue puts guys in the NFL at that position... Take the money and go. - Ed Cunningham about Marve. LOL

Then the other guy said, "Drew Brees anyone?" LOLOL And who coached Drew Brees? dumba**. Marve is Tennessee all the way.

The Journal Gazette is flat out garbage.
