Honestly if it wasn't for the economic boom and Gingrich trying to stick with his contract with America, I have little faith we would have seen that temporary reprieve.

Republicans had control of both chambers of Congress during Trump's first two years in office, with a booming economy at his back, which did not necessitate economic stimulus. Yet, he decided to cut taxes and dramatically increase spending, anyway. It was fiscally irresponsible.

Also, Donald Trump had even campaigned in 2016 on a pledge to completely eliminate the debt in 8 years. A more comically disingenuous campaign pledge has never been made by anyone. Donald Trump is a flat out lying buffoon.

There is another scary solution that I could see happening. War.

War can bring profit/remove debt. Not the way USA is fighting wars now (or frankly throughout all of its history). Think wars like Ancient Rome or even Nazi Germany.

Wars of conquest/plunder. Take example Iraq in this scenario. Instead of setting up a government and paying for it, we conquer Iraq, rule with our troops, take money from their banks, businesses, etc. Take their oil and use it at no charge, etc.

Roman Republic (somewhat for different reasons) switched like that. Normally they left opponents (like Greece) to their own devices (although they often shrunk some of the powers by breaking them up) and did not initially make them provinces. Over time, their mentality changed (along with their desire to NOT have a King. Something else that I am afraid will happen eventually).

Are you familiar with the Mexican War, the unpleasantness of 1861-65, and the Spanish and Philippine wars?

Let's pay attention to whether the gangster comments on the murder of Putin critic and Russian opposition leader Aleksei Navalny. Putin effectively murdered him, as he has many critics, journalists others over the years. Let's see if the gangster comments--and if he does, what he says. It will be most interesting. He might say nothing, which alone would be very telling, or he might comment--but keep his remarks anodyne so as not to offend his Russian hero.
