Guys, why is it that we seem to be able to attract juco's (Newton), transfers (Marve), and the walk on QB (name slips my mind right now), but we aren't able to get a commit from a HS QB?
Is it just that these guys are older, wiser, and understand college depth charts... or maybe they aren't sitting back enjoying being recruited by tons of great programs like Heaps/Scroggins are? I still think it's crazy we could end up with three new Qbs on the depth chart before we got a commit from a HSer.
Yeah I am not happy as well. Newton is the safer option IMO. The 1 and only thing Marve has above Newton is that he will be here 1 year longer to learn the O. IMO idk how big a advantage that is because all I have heard is how easy the O is to pick up. Marve to us is not official yet, so there is still hope. Just not alot.

Newton played just a few snaps in a spread offense. Marve started a year in a pro style offense. I don't understand why everyone is so high on Newton. Not that I don't think he has upside but what has he done to be #1 on your board?
The staff has the right idea with him IMO. Wait til he plays a few games in Juco and then evaluate him.

There's little to risk when you tell a kid..."Alright, we're willing to give you a second chance here, but you try to pull the same kind of stuff here, and that's it...you're out on the street before you have time to wake up!"Guys it seems that there is a clear mutual attaction between Orgeron and the retreads. Having been personally rehabilitated on a few fronts, Ed has a soft spot for these guys and they feel more comfortable with him.
I admire that willingness to give a guy a second or third chance. Look what bringing Jevon Snead to Ole Miss has done for Jevon.
Most coaches wouldn't be willing to stick their neck out for these guys and I'm sure UT will get repaid with interest. You can't buy loyalty like that.
It's a fascination with athletic ability IMO. Everyone falls for the 6' 6" guy that can run a 4.5 forty.
Not saying it's bad to do that, but height/weight numbers don't always tell you if the guy can play.
Thats a understatment.
If we didn't then why do we offer? Surely 4 star HS Qb's are not backup plans in case we don't get a Juco or transfer...
