anyone that read meat market knows how much coach o and frank wilson coveted marve...it wouldn't surprise me in the least for them to take him over newton.

It obviously depends on the system. Newton would be better for Florida's offense. I think Marve is almost prototypical for the offense we will be running. Stands tough in the pocket and can make any throw. Mobile enough to elude defenders. If he was 6'3, he's the perfect Kiffin quarterback.

Decision making definitely needs improvement, but that's corrected with coaching and reps. He would have a year to learn and improve in our system as well.

Yeah good points. I am still going to stick with my opinion that we will get newton. I have NO sources or anything. Its just my feeling. I may be wrong. I may not be, we will just have to find out.

they go Marve, and it is sounding fairly strong right now, IMO Newton not coming here...
If they went out to evaluate him, I'm surprised they didn't offer Newton. They've likely seen enough film, and to go through the trouble of traveling to evaluate the kid means they'd have to be pretty disappointed with what they saw.

they would have to convince CLK, Chaney and Reaves. that is who is making the QB call...

just because newton is labled with the dual threat tag dosent meant he wont be a good fit for kiffins system.
i dont even like the qb lables they have.

So, Larry, help me understand something here. I know that Marve has to sit out a year because he's transferring to a DI school, but what is the difference between the situation now where he is not being released to play for us, versus a full release and no restrictions.

Will he ever be on scholarship here or does he have to pay his entire way?

not larry but ill try to help, from what i read it would just be the first year.

just one year..after this year he can be put on scholarship is how i understand it

miami can only control what he does the one year after he leaves there...they cannot dictate what he does after that

Man, I'm really torn about who I want between these 2. I've been stoked about getting Newton because of his sheer athletic ability and his cannon arm. That being said, marve may be the best option for one reason. By walking on this season he will get a whole year to learn Kiffin's sytem and prepare for 2010 while Newton will be spending this year at Binn...

marve walking on this year makes him the better option in my opinion...he looked good at times while at miami

i like marve also , the extra year means alot in development of a qb, but man wouldnt it be nice to stick it to florida with one of their former qbs?

Marve is the better option simply based on time. He will learn the offense and he is a pro-style QB. Don't forget he has a cannon of an arm as well.

On raw talent alone, Newton gets the nod. But as far as fitting in this system with the best shot to play in 2010 it is Marve hands down. IMO

If the marve rumors are true, what are the chances that we can still get cam?

I'd say they go down significantly. Hopefully though, Cam thinks he can beat Marve out and comes anyway. What I wonder about is whether or not Marve is aware that Cam is a possibility. Once he enrolls in summer classes, it's pretty much a done deal.

I'd bet that, if you know Newton's a possibility, Mavre knows Newton's a possibility.

I think he can go on scholarship for the 2010 year but not 2009. He has to pay his own way this year to get around the release rule. He would take the Purdue gig and free ride opposed to paying for 3 years out of pcoket at UT IMO. He has to understand he gets a ship begninning in 2010...

I looked it up and you're right. Basically he is going to have to pay for a semester because he has already set out for the spring semester. So he can be on a scholly starting next spring.
