No problem. I am still holding out hope that Marve goes to Purdue and we get Newton. But lookin really slim now.

In a way, I'd REALLY like it if Newton committed right away...slamming the door in the face of these HS recruits.
They need to learn that stringing universities out doesn't always pay, and that their decision needs to be made sooner rather than later.
I can see the look on Heaps face..."Oh, Sh_t..!"

Fart around with your commitment and look where it gets you...with UW

Fart around with a commitment? Its over 8 months away from NSD. He is committing really early. Although its about on par for a QB.

Still got till next Feb man. I want Newton, but if that means not getting scroggins/etc I dont want him. Right off the bat he will bring us more bad publicity.

Heaps hasn't even started his senior year of high school yet....how the hell is he "stringing universities out?"

QB's are usually off the board well before the season starts.
It's actually very late in the game for top rated prospects seeking to land on a top-tier team. The door closes very fast...as it is about to with us

Yeah....teams sure slammed the door on Terrelle Pryor when he waited until 2 months after signing day to commit to Ohio St.

If you noticed the recruiting this time last year, Fulmer and staff mentioned how early all the top QB prospects were taken up. When Nunes committed in the summer, he was considered "The Best of The Rest."

I just wish somebody would commit so we can stop speculating and start arguing how good or bad it is.

no. your right qbs commit early but its stupid to say the doors about to shut. It shuts whenever the kid wants it to shut, or at the Signing Deadline.

Pryor was the exception...not the rule. You know that as well as I do.
But yeah...he did string teams out...there were plenty that just stopped recruiting him cause they didn't have time to wait on him, and took the number they needed.

So, yeah..again....Pryor strung a lot of teams out. Like UW, BYU, etc. there will be some teams left for Heaps too.

If Heaps wants the door to stay open for him at UT, until Aug or later, he's mistaken. Now that Marve is taking/taken one spot, whoever raises their hand first...closes the door for the rest

How many top QBs have committed for this class? Bama has a commit... there's still a freakin' ton that haven't. He isn't stringing any teams out.

It is true that QB recruits have started committing earlier than they use to…..I think most everybody on this board knows that…..but to say a QB is “stringing along” universities before the summer of his senior year….is a silly thing to say.

Pryor strung them out until he was ready to make a decision...and powerhouse programs were willing to give him all the time he needed.

If Heaps is good enough, he can take as long as he wants. That's really all there is to it. If you've got game, you can take as long as you want to make your decision....there'll be a spot waiting for you.

For some teams who have a desperate enough need and haven't been able to fill it, that may be the case...like us this time last year. The offensive staff upheaval left us behind the curve recruiting-wise. And that's largely why we didn't get our 2 QB's earlier.

The 5* guys are usually snagged up by now, and most top tier teams fill those vacancies rather quick as well. Not every team, whom a QB like Pryor has on his list, is willing to wait on him...when his list gets "Paired Down," what you often don't hear is that it wasn't HE who lost interest in the teams he shaved off his list...it is often the other way around. Teams called him and told him they no longer had a scholly available.
It appears to us that it's ALL up to his descretion, when in fact, the longer he waits, that list grows shorter all by itself. More and more teams tell him, "Thanks, but No Thanks."
Just because there are still a handful of teams left saying..."Ooh, Ooh, Pick us...Pick us!"...doesn't mean the best fit and opportunity was still waiting.
Just like Heaps. All it's going to take is for Hendrix, Scroggins, etc. to get on the phone and and tell CLK that they are pledging...door is closed, no matter what Heaps thought. Doesn't matter if he was a heavy lean to us. Doesn't matter how good he is. Kiffin and staff sent out official offers. All it takes is for someone to take the offer before he does....so, yeah, let Hendrix, Scroggins or Newton (for example) raise their hand and he effectively strung things out til it was too late (if he wanted to play here)

I'm sure he is in a wait-and-see situation right now. I think it is possible to get both Newton and Marve. The question then becomes, is that enough to scare off a big name QB like Heaps, Scroggins, or Hendrix. Remember, Hendrix has a lot of offers. He definitely has options and he's our 3rd choice at QB from all that I have gathered. It's a mess right now.

I dont understand wny we would even want Newton or Marve. Newton was dumb enough to get kicked off of the UF team.....and that takes REAL stupidity. Marve did not look good at all in his stint at The U. I dont see what all the hype is for....???
