Nice. You asked for an average defense and then when presented, poo-pooed it. You are irrational and unreasonable. You've been cut deeply and are simply bleeding emotion all over the board.Lol, still no answer. 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10? I'm not doing your work for you either.
I've seen all I need to see. 7 straight possessions, 7 straight touchdowns against a bad SC team. But, but, but sign were stole.
Has Mizzou punted yet? But they're roster is better. They did better in the portal.
All the stats are meaningless because they were against scrub teams.
We'll see whose proven to be right. I don't think asking for a defense that can stop mother Teresa is asking a whole lot after 3 years. With NIL and the portal, it shouldn't take that long. But keep the faith.
well, yeah. but the norm is what? winning more than losing? i don't have the stats in front of me but i think this year's defense was "better" than the last two. and i still say those injuries at key spots really made an impact. doesn't mean they were good enough. but i think if you could have put this defense with last year's offense.....man...that's a hard team to beat. We're 3 years in. At some point it becomes the norm.
Do you think last year's schedule was harder than this year's? Especially offenses?well, yeah. but the norm is what? winning more than losing? i don't have the stats in front of me but i think this year's defense was "better" than the last two. and i still say those injuries at key spots really made an impact. doesn't mean they were good enough. but i think if you could have put this defense with last year's offense.....man...that's a hard team to beat.
that's another thing i haven't really mentioned is that this offense really put it on the defense to be perfect...they were on the field A LOT this year because a) we didn't sustain drives and b) not sustaining drives is ok if you're scoring and putting the pressure on the opposing offense....which we definitely didn't do enough of this year.
anyway....football is a complimentary game, and this year, we did not have an offense that could help cover up the defense, and we don't have a defense good enough to protect a stagnate, one dimensional offense. but we got a damn punter!
to me the most consistent thing this defense has going against it and was prevalent all 3 seasons is our inability to get off the field....again, i don't have the stats in front of me, but my biggest gripe is we're not consistently getting off the field when we have opportunities to do so. the coaching does have to be better. don't get me wrong. i'm just not convinced it's worth changing right now, in the middle of the rebuild.
i don't think we know what we got at DB right now. we have a lot of youth in that group and it's not like they all got a ton of playing time this season....a little early to say nothing will change, at some point it has to if for no other reason the names are finally gonna start changing..........LB, yeah, i think we have some work to do there. which is why pili being out hurt....we need help there definitely. We did. It’s been three years. Defense still isn’t good and we haven’t recruited any difference makers at LB (except Carter) and DB so nothing will change. That’s why we need a change because we have the consistent average LBs and DBs and it’s killing us. DL will be scary good next year. And a Nico led offense will be a terror.
good question. my initial reaction is to say last year's was harder. FL wasn't as bad as they are this year. but missouri sucked....USCe was better last year, UK was better last year....push on Bama and UGA, but gun to my head, Bama's offense last year was better so i give them the nod over this year. Pitt was better last year than UVA this year.Do you think last year's schedule was harder than this year's? Especially offenses?
100%. The defense won't be any better next year. That means Banks best case is year 5 to have some semblance of a defense. I mean we're looking at 5 years to field a defense best case? If you have to have the best players to field a defense, are you really all that good of a coach?
@InVOLuntary be like...Hubbs saying that Banks is back next year unless he gets a better job offer/opportunity elsewhere
I think so too. We've really not beaten anyone with a pulse. Defensive statistics are not indicatitive of this defense.good question. my initial reaction is to say last year's was harder. FL wasn't as bad as they are this year. but missouri sucked....USCe was better last year, UK was better last year....push on Bama and UGA, but gun to my head, Bama's offense last year was better so i give them the nod over this year. LSU was better last year than aTm this year.
last year's schedule was harder. i think.
You mix and match. You don’t just play seniority who lack talent at some spots. Playing a walk on at DB against Georgia when you have 17 scholarship DBs is a cop out and plenty of young talent could have played. If they aren’t ready and can’t beat a walk on, then we aren’t recruiting the right players or our coaches are failing the players. We didn’t get blown out by Mizzou because of being decimated. Our defense couldn’t get off the field from the soft zone and Milton has killed on the confidence in our offensive players. UGA we were very injured. How would the team look if we had not got those 30 seniors back. He was in a tough spot. Could’ve had a roster of 15 seniors and 9 juniors and 11 sophomores with 33 freshman. 24 upper classmen and 68 players and those include the portal guys we got. 2021 killed us with 4 left in class. They had to do what they did and play what they did or we would’ve looked at 5 wins and been screwed for awhile. Hard to play D with the talent level and numbers they were stuck with and an O scoring 16 instead of 36-45 TD’s. The reason we got blown out in these last two games is we are a physically decimated team. I felt like you until I saw the class breakdown. This was the year it was going to hurt and next year, we better stay healthy and get some OL. McGill tried to tell us but we didn’t listen. He was right.
Lol!!! What do you expect the mouth piece of UT football to say? We lost out on talent because we didn’t pony up or we didn’t recruit well enough? Of course they will say that.Impossible. I read here that a NCAA pay-for-play investigation and negative recruiting wouldn't have affected recruiting.
if you can’t use stats than what can you use?I think so too. We've really not beaten anyone with a pulse. Defensive statistics are not indicatitive of this defense.
Do you really believe next year's defense will be better? I know we have to wait to see what happens in the portal but unless we just have a crazy portal I don't see us improving much personel wise.
While I agree the offense doesn’t help the defense at all. The point of the defense is to be aggressive and get the ball back to our high powered offense. Which means creating havoc and getting turnovers. Our defense is not that at all. It lets teams have 7-10 minutes drives on occasion and killed our offense having a chance to get a rhythm. We sit two high all the time to not be beat deep, but why not creep one up to try for a pick or be more exotic with blitzes? I think we should be ok with the occasional deep pass for a two minute scoring drive instead of an 8-10 minute drive that gets the offense cold and limits possessions.UT ranks dead last in time of possession. Check the other teams near the bottom of that category and also check how their defenses are doing.
No reason to fire Banks when the defense has improved with an offense than doesn't stay on the field. Heupel coached teams won't ever have truly elite defenses because of this, and that's okay. The defense was good enough this year, the offense was not.
Willie can leave tho.
