Official Gramps' Memorial Eternal OT Thread

Several years ago when we were having the house resided, I asked the subcontractor about gutter covers. We always had a problem with leaves in the gutters. He suggested instead of the more solid guards like Leafguard using something like this; he thought they were just as effective and far less expensive. I asked if he'd install them independently rather than as a subcontractor to the other company, he agreed, and offered a very good price. We have fewer big trees in the yard since getting rid of a couple of problems - like a huge hickory that spread nuts all over and the pines that were hit by borers, but the screens have been great and far cheaper than what the gutter company had offered when we got new wider gutters. Another thing that makes a difference is getting the wider gutters vs what most contractors put up when they build.

My parents had new name brand gutters installed here with the matching expensive covers. I noticed water running over the gutters earlier today when it rained. I think keeping trash out of the gutters with guards is probably on par with keeping squirrels out of bird feeders - nothing is going to work perfectly. The type in the picture need to be a pretty stiff metal and rounded upward.

why do they have to be rounded?

why do they have to be rounded?

Mine round down from where they meet the shingles. I would say that being rounded in that manner changes the contact area and leaves are less likely to stick; don't think I've ever seen a discussion. I put up cheaper flat plastic ones in the past and they seemed to attract leaves; plus with time they sagged and made it even worse. By being rounded up any screen type would more resistant to sagging.

Nah, it's cool. Contrary to our banter, no one has emailed me anything inappropriate.

No worries.
I will be sending on an email to you. I have received a check I can not cash because I have not an American bank account and I need your help. You will receive substantial compensations in return for your many assistance. Your agreements of help are appreciative.

I don't know if anyone is paying attention to this women's World Cup, but if, and it is a big if, the US gets past Sweden tomorrow, I don't know if Japan can be beaten. They looked unstoppable today.

I doubt many are paying attention, its womens soccer. If it weren’t for their antics I wouldn’t even know there was a tournament going on.
