Official Gramps' Memorial Eternal OT Thread

Well darn. My sister just ended her engagement with the biggest douche in the world and, while everyone in Campus Dinkus is over the moon in celebration (the whole family disliked this guy, especially my niece), he had convinced her to rent out her house and move to Huntsville 4 months ago so she needs to find a place to live around Spring Hill until her tenants move out.

(I really, really want to avoid having her and her 12 year old living with me until then)

Take one for team Dink.

I am not saying she won't find something, but rentals are at a premium now. I don't know anyone offering short term without gouging the tenant on rent. I've got a 2br 1 ba duplex which may work for her. I'd be willing to rent short term as a favor to you. Previous tenant is out and we are getting it ready to list. It's in Columbia. JLMK.

Got an email I can send to you? She's about to have to sign a corporate rate in spring hill and this might work.

Anybody use Leafguard or know about their pricing? I got a mailing for 75% off installation. I got a guy that will install a similar or same product for less than $2500 on 2000sf.

Be careful. Neighbor has been wanting to get it, but quotes have been insane. He told last company it was more than he wanted to pay and the guy was like "let me call my manager" and came back with a lower price. It's like negotiating at a car dealer.

Neighbor said no, btw. He didn't want to work with them at all after that.

That's why I don't like dealing with some of this. I got a guy who charged me $180 for a small repair job that was about 25 feet high. It didn't take him any time but most won't put up a ladder at that price. He's a small business owner so no advertising fees etc besides a business card that I had gotten out the mailbox a couple of years ago. I was wanting to price compare but I'm guessing he is competitive even with Leafguard discounts.

Several years ago when we were having the house resided, I asked the subcontractor about gutter covers. We always had a problem with leaves in the gutters. He suggested instead of the more solid guards like Leafguard using something like this; he thought they were just as effective and far less expensive. I asked if he'd install them independently rather than as a subcontractor to the other company, he agreed, and offered a very good price. We have fewer big trees in the yard since getting rid of a couple of problems - like a huge hickory that spread nuts all over and the pines that were hit by borers, but the screens have been great and far cheaper than what the gutter company had offered when we got new wider gutters. Another thing that makes a difference is getting the wider gutters vs what most contractors put up when they build.

My parents had new name brand gutters installed here with the matching expensive covers. I noticed water running over the gutters earlier today when it rained. I think keeping trash out of the gutters with guards is probably on par with keeping squirrels out of bird feeders - nothing is going to work perfectly. The type in the picture need to be a pretty stiff metal and rounded upward.

Put the screens on mine years ago and have worked like a charm.
