UPS gave away the farm with this new contract. The white collar side turns over more than people change their underwear because that's where the cuts come from and yes contrary to popular belief you have to have competent and experienced management to run an organization. In a couple years UPS will have a hard time competing with the non union shippers.
Plus I'm not a fan of the CEO, IMO she has made or has allowed some very bad decisions to be made. Sure she has kept the stock price up but I don't think there is a lot of long term thinking going on. Now this is just an opinion of a vendor that's worked for them all over the country for about 26 years.
UPS mgmt is not for everyone, yes it is stressful at times, but even p/t mgmt is compensated very well. Most mgmt work their way up from the very bottom, this helps give an understanding of how the UPS process works, when someone is hired off the street it can be a bit overwhelming. My step son’s wife went to work at UPS right out of college. It was a stressful nightmare. Even when she was off on the weekends she would have to carry around her laptop and keep tabs on guys on why they haven’t completed their deliveries always well into the evening. She was thrilled to get out of there.
I don't see the mgmt t/o like the vendor said and I'm pretty well connected. There is some t/o in the p/t mgmt, but that is to be expected. There are a lot more of them than upper mgmt , which has very little t/o, so the p/t mgmt has less opportunity to move up. UPS has been competing with non-union shippers for over 70 years and has not had a problem. They will be around for a long time. As far as the contract, it doesn't appear they gave away much anywhere except bumping up starting pay. This had to be done, quality of employee is important. Every contract restructures the pay raises for the hourlys. After reading most of the contract jmo.
The only thing that has changed is they are ending the pension and replacing it with a very well funded 401k, I believe they are matching up to 20%. Still get free Healthcare until you go on medicare.Used to be the white collar guys put up with mountains of BS because they were paid better than average, had great benefits and had a light at the end of the tunnel in one heck of a retirement package. Now as I understand that's not the case.
One of my buddy's is over PE for this district I'll ask about the t/o. We have had none in this area leaving. Its one of the lesser stressful jobs. I do something similar, but in operations. It is much more stressful. We do appreciate your business. I've been through 6 contracts now and most look like the union has screwed the company, but it has never been the case.Which side (brown or white) do you work on?
I'm on the outside looking in being a vendor but I've noticed so much turnover in plant engineering it's hard to keep up with who's got what centers. Yeah the guys I've worked with for the past 20 some years and they range from the Atlanta Corp office to the district level are sticking it out, they pretty much have to but like you said part time and new hires are turning over quickly. I love UPS, they've been a great and steady client for a long time and I'm rooting for them but I just think this new contract will be an albatross.

You are in our district and you probably do know him he is out of Nashville. As with every contract we'll just have to see how it plays out, its just for 5 years.I probably know your buddy. Depending on the district I'm sure we played golf together when they could have their tournaments.
Sounds like you've been there a long time so you would know better than me.
Thanks Joe for lying yet again on the Bidenomics working great in bringing down prices.
