I think huff and some others are missing the essence of the whole argument and that being "cancel culture". Some words and usage go out of style like many other facets of our lives. That's not really what we are talking about here, though. This is about non evolutionary change; it's about forced change ... change to the dictates of some group of people who wish to force their new, righteous, virtuous ways on society. Generally they way they go about it is destroying by one method or another an existing norm, and often the means to achieve their ends is to slander and demean any malingerers who resist the revolution. The left (although being the party of science and believers in evolution) just doesn't believe in evolution of society; they prefer revolution where they are the Creationists.

This is BS semantics. If it's books they don't have budget for, then why is it only 800 or so books? Wouldn't it be all the books minus the books they have budget for? This is about budgets? Sounds like they are using resources to remove books.

Sounds like your activists started stuffing shelves with their propaganda and it didn't go over well with the natives. So books were pulled wholesale for review. Stuff happens when you force a viewpoint, people fight back, and the result can be widespread. My personal view on some is that matters of sex whether normal, gay, or whatever don't belong in public schools in the first place (certainly not grade school) - that includes some other topics, too, but this deals with "culture". As @creekdipper said earlier, students can still get books by other means which one would suppose would be public libraries and online ebook libraries.

Anybody know if Mark Twain books are banned for racist words after years of being classics?

I agree with that, and that's the crux of "counter culture". The real point is whether as a whole something is derogatory or just whether another group is claiming it is. Which group do you believe, and where is the right in forcing one group's opinion on the other? The Confederate flag was not necessarily a symbol of hate when I grew up, and I certainly never heard the song "Dixie" use as a "weapon". Yet a vocal minority turned what so many saw as simple history into a display of something offensive. I turned 77 a couple of days ago and largely grew up in the South (a very few years outside the South as a military brat); in all those years I can't say I ever met a KKK member or a neo-Nazi, and I doubt that younger people can honestly claim they have either.

But it was always a hateful symbol. It was used to show the blacks their place by a great many people. Not everyone used it in the same manner, but enough did that should be retired. It was a celebration of history, specifically a time in history when whites owned blacks and fought for the right to do so.

First, I didn't say there was a need for the parents to do so. I said it isn't the same as the government doing so. Taxpayers informing taxpayer funded schools what they would prefer in the taxpayer funded school libraries does not, in my opinion, constitute a ban, and certainly not in the same way that government forcing the issue would be.

I get what you're saying but removing books from a school library because the majority (hardly ever is the majority, just the most vocal) wants them removed is the same as a book ban. Now, if parent A doesn't want their kid to read XYZ book I have no issue with them informing the school and the school enforcing their wishes by not allowing the kid to check out the book. But I have a problem with other parents deciding what is acceptable reading material for my kid, I pay taxes also.

And no porn shouldn't be in a school library so let's just take that absurd discussion off the table.
