Tennessee Softball 2023

Not everyone that posts here is a 'fan'. Parents of players and even some that work within the AD post here so it's natural that when questions are asked sometimes they get answers. I think it's pretty natural for fans to be curious as to why a legacy player who was a starter and regular contributor left.

Nothing wrong with asking why. Big problem with those that take it a step further and make it personal against any player and start calling them names.

That is classless…and clueless.

Tennessee isn’t for everyone. We have kids not wanting to be here and leave and accept kids who leave other programs to come here.

It's not natural to wonder about these athletes personal lives, and yes I have joked about Pickens on here but I have never wondered or even thought about asking why or want to know their reason for leaving or not playing. Bottom line these young men and women personal lives are none of our business, the only thing we should be concerned about is what happens on the field not anything else. I'm sure you have a different view and that's your opinion.Maybe you and I should exchange addresses and get that Christmas card sent out lol have a good day

Yes. And they are 17-18 when they make that initial choice. A little flakiness should be expected at that age. At least that was my experience…I was a disaster.

Payton Gottshall left Bowling Green after her coach Sarah Willis was hired to be the head coach at Bradley. Payton had no intention of entering the portal and then her world was turned upside down. A blessing for Tennessee. Young people like Payton should have the right to change their mind without adults labeling their decision. Bowling Green fans have wished her well.

Texas' softball Coach just reminded us that Tennessee's fan base is one of the classiest in the nation. We all have to work to remind ourselves what grace means.

I just noticed that Thursday's losers play on Friday, and Thursday's winners play on Saturday. I'm going to our game on Thursday and had thought the winners would surely be in the Friday session. The way the NCAA is doing this stacks the deck against the two teams who win on Thursday and lose on Saturday, which is bad for Tenn/Bama. I want to win the first game, because the 2-0 teams earn a big advantage, and you obviously must be 1-0 before you can be 2-0, but if we go 1-1, we're better off going the Thursday-Friday route and coming back on Sunday to play one of Saturday's losers. Also - what if it storms on Saturday? It would be insane to make someone who started 1-0 play twice on Sunday.

I think if Ally hadn't gone to Bama a lot of UT fans would feel completely different about her departure.

I think Payton came on too late to get on the radar of some.

For clarity’s sake, she wasn’t eligible. To be nominated for All-American/All-Region, a pitcher has to have pitched at least 30% of her team’s innings in the regular season. She came in just under that. In the evolving nature of pitching in college softball, that’s a number that will likely be revisited by the committee soon.

All-Freshman has a lower threshold.

i thought they made a big deal last year that you wouldn't have to play back to back days for safety.

Same format as last year. Teams in the winners bracket don’t play back to back days. The only possible doubleheader, which is what you’re thinking of, is an if-necessary game on Monday. Under the old format, a team coming out of the losers bracket would have to play doubleheaders on consecutive days. They also added a day off/weather day on Tuesday before the championship series begins Wednesday.
